The 3-year old black stallion Krokant was named the champion of the 2022 Oldenburg Saddle Licensing in Vechta, Germany, on 2 April 2022.
From 18 to 12 to 10 to 6
Eighteen stallions were selected for the saddle licensing, which took place on the same weekend as the Oldenburg Spring Elite Auction.
In the end twelve were registered to show up at the licensing, but two more dropped out last minute. Six were licensed and three received the premium label.
Krokant
Krokant (by Kremlin MD out of Bella Blue by Bvlgari - Samarant - Weltmeyer) was named the champion of the saddle licensing. Bred by Wilhelm Klausing, the black took highest honour.
"A stallion that showed himself superior here on all days, yesterday on the inspection on hard ground and his own rider, today again under the guest rider. A stallion with a very energetic start, a big shoulder and a good saddle position," said Oldenburg's Breeding Director Bernhard Thoben describes the winner.
Krokant sold in the auction to Denmark. The online bidding platform posted a sales price of for 160,000 euro.
Secret's Hit
The reserve champion and second premium stallion was the 3-year old Secret's Hit (by Secret out of Weisssilber by Sandro Hit - Rubinstein I - Inselfürst). He is bred by Marco Trier and owned by Hans Henning Grönwoldt.
He sold at auction for 165,000 euro to a Bavarian based Grand Prix rider.
Scotland Yard
The third ranked premium stallion was the 3-year old Scotland Yard (by Secret out of Elfenwald by Fürst Romancier - De Niro - Rohdiamant). He is bred by Wilfried Fleming and owned by the Vienna based company Trading Agency GmbH, who bought the colt as a foal at the Vechta Elite Foal Auction in 2019.
He sold at auction to the same Bavarian Grand Prix rider as Secret's Hit. For Scotland Yard they paid the top price of 280,000 euro
