For those who thought that the Bundeschampionate - the German Young Horse Championships - were already bursting out of its seams, guess again ! The 2022 edition will be even bigger as a 7-year old dressage horse division has been added to the programme.

The German equestrian federation announced the additional category yesterday.

7-year old division

The Bundeschampionate feature classes for dressage horses and ponies in the age categories of 3, 4, 5 and 6 years and now all a fifth category for 7-year olds.

German bred and registered horses are eligible to compete in the 7-year old division if they achieved at least twice 70% in an M** class, or once 68% in an S-dressage class at national shows this spring and summer. In addition, the 6-year od finalists of the 2021 Bundeschampionate and 2021 World Championships are automatically qualified

Additionally 7-year-old German riding horses with comparable performance, achieved abroad in a test similar to the FEI 7-year old test, under a foreign rider are also eligible.

2022

The 2022 edition has a new three-letter-word company title sponsor. After DKB sponsored the event for years, the German HKM tack company now signed for a three-year sponsorship.

The 2022 Bundeschampionate take place from 31 August till 4 September 2022.
