Portuguese dressage rider Nuno Chaves de Almeida has declared for Brazil and will try for a Brazilian team spot for the 2022 World Championships in Herning.

Adestramento Brasil announced the news of the change of flags for the Portuguese rider.

From Brazil to Portugal

Nuno was born in Niteroi near Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, but moved to Portugal with his parents in 1991.

The 34-year old Chaves  has been establishing himself as a professional dressage rider and made his international show debut in 2015, riding Sandro Plus and Forlady Plus in the young horse classes at the CDI Vilamoura. Nuno competed at a handful more CDI's, all in Portugal.

Joao Marcari Oliva

Two months ago, Chaves connected with the Portuguese based Brazilian rider Joao Victor Marcari Oliva, who offered him the ride on his 10-year old Westfalian Feel Good VO (by Franziskus x Dimension x Parforce).

The pair made its CDI debut on 9 - 10 April at the CDI Abrantes, riding for Brazil. They posted 67.065% in the Grand Prix and 66.234% in the Special.

“I accepted this challenge. I am happy to represent Brazil and to have the support of the Oliva family who entrusted me with a horse with the qualities of Feel Good," Nuno told Adestramento Brasil.

Nuno is based at Sylvain Massa’s Academy in Arruda dos Vinhos.
