The 22-year old Hanoverian licensed breeding stallion Riverside has passed away on 22 December 2022. His Australian owner Jeannine Brown announced that the stallion was put to sleep.

Ricerside was a 2000 born Hanoverian stallion by Regazzoni out of Desiree (by Donnerhall x Pik König x Frustra II). He was bred by Ingo Pape.

Premium

The chestnut was premium licensed at the 2002 Hanoverian Stallion Licensing in Verden and approved for Oldenburg and Westfalen in 2003.

He did the 70-day stallion performance testing in the summer of 2003, scoring an index of 133,8 points with 138.53 for dressage and 101.40 for jumping.

In Germany he sired 36 mares who are registered as broodmare, five of them are state premium. According to the German Equestrian Federation database, there are  no licensed sons in Germany, but Horsetelex lists Rapallo (by Riverside x Sunset Boulevard xx) as a licensed son.

Sport Career

Riverside began his sport career under Canadian Gillian Petersen (née Duke), who worked as an assistant rider at Pape stallion station at the time.

She first competed him as a 4-year old in a local show in Freiburg. In the summer of that year they won bronze at the 2004 Hanoverian Young Horse Championships in Verden

In 2005 the pair represented Canada at the World Young Horse Championships in Verden and finished 7th in the 5-year old consolation finals.

In 2006 Ingo Pape took over the ride himself and competed the horse at a few local shows before wife Susan Pape climbed aboard and, representing Great Britain, she rode him to a 14th place in the 6-year old finals at the 2006 World Young Horse Championships.

The horse's last show was in Wingst-Dobrock in August 2006.

Sold to Australia

Two years later Riverside sold as a breeding stallion to Amanda Shoobridge and her then-husband David of Revelwood Stud in Australia. He arrived in Australia in September 2008.

Revelwood stood the stallion up for stud until March 2015 when they sold the stallion to Jody Pockran.

Pockran sold him to Jeannine Brown's Jembrae Warmbloods in February 2018 and stood him up for stud the last four years of his life.

On 22 December 2022, the stallion was euthanised at age 22.

Riverside in Australia
"We all have that special horse that touches your heart, fills your dreams and makes everything better on a bad day. For me, that horse was Riverside," Brown wrote as tribute to her passed stallion. "I couldn't believe how lucky we have been to have had such a wonderful horse. I would often pinch myself having him in my paddock. (...) We had to make the heart breaking decision that his life would be better running in the sky rather than in his paddock. We have no words for the pain we are feeling but can only be thankful that I was lucky to fulfill a dream and he was living his last years with me. He was the best schoolmaster and the biggest show off."

Legacy

With only a limited number of offspring in Europe, the son that caught the most attention was Rodrigo VA (by Riverside x Hohenstein) who became a bronze medallist in the 3-year old division at the 2007 Bundeschampionate. He sold for 200,000 euro to Uwe Schulten-Baumer at the 2007 Verden October Elite Auction but never competed again.

In Australia, Riverside produced some versatile offspring with Kasheer (by Riverside x Capone) competing at CCI 4* level under Usman Khan and Andrew Cooper and the New Zealand based Australian warmblood bred Jembrae Rattle n Hum (by Riverside x.  Tristram xx) showing at small tour level with Tanisha Ryan.
