German young professional dressage rider Emma Gömmer will be trying for the 2024 Piaff Forderpreis show circuit with Gestut Bonhomme's licensed stallion Grey Flanell.

Grey Flanell is a 14-year old KWPN stallion by Gribaldi x Clavecimbel x Ferro. He is bred by the late Adriaan van der Goor.

Licensed Stallion

He was licensed at the 2013 Oldenburg Stallion Licensing in Vechta and sold at auction to Gestüt Bonhomme for 72,000 euro.

Grey Flanell’s first crop of foals excelled at foal inspections and nine of his foals sold through the 2014 Oldenburg Elite Auction in Vechta, every single one changed hands for five-digit sums. He was the 2014 Oldenburg Main Premium winner.

Sport Career

He was first trained and competed by Frederic Wandres, who was head rider at Gestut Bonhomme at the time. They finished fourth in the 2014 Pavo Cup Finals. In 2015 Richard Hannöver competed him briefly at L-level followed by Moritz Gehrman.

As of 2018 Lena Waldmann continued the training of the stallion. They did their first S-level test in July 2018 and rode the Nurnberber Burgpokal qualifiers that year. In October 2019 they moved up to Inter II level and in 2020 rode at a few Louisdor Cup qualifiers and finished 8th in the Finals. Their international show debut was in June 2021 at the CDI Herzlake at medium tour level, followed by Zandhoven and Zakrzow.  Waldmann rode him through 2022 until she left Bonhomme.

Simone Pearce took over the ride, but never showed him. After Pearce left, Moritz Treffinger took over and he showed him for the first (and only time) in August 2023 in Donzdorf at S*** level.

Emma Gömmer

In August 2023 Gömmer began working as an assistant rider at Gestüt Bonhomme in Werder, Germany, alongside Treffinger.

The 21-year old has taken over the ride on Grey Flanell and has now been invited to ride the Piaff Förderpreis training seminar and selection trial in Warendorf.

"We are one team and try to allocate horses in order to get the best output for our horses and riders," Saskia Conredel of Gestut Bonhomme told Eurodressage. "As Emma doesn’t have a U25 Grand Prix horse at the moment and Moritz has four experienced Grand Prix horses and four extremely interesting 7/8 year old GP prospects at the same time, Emma is training Grey Flanell for the moment."

Gömmer made her international show debut as a junior rider at the CDI Aachen Indoor in December 2019 aboard Sir Robin Off Loxley (by Sandro Hit x Donnerschwee) and moved him up to Young Riders level in 2020. That year she showed Springsteen (by Sir Donnerhall x Furst) at junior level. She showed in three CDI's in her career so far, her last international show being in Ornago in October 2020, where she won the YR team test and kur with Sir Robin.

"Grey Flanell is part of my list and of course among others it’s exciting to ride a horse with so much quality," Emma told Eurodressage.
