In the lead-up to the Dutch Olympic team selection trials, Marlies van Baalen has received the good news that her number one Habibi DVB has received NOP status.
the 12-year old KWPN gelding Habibi (by Don Schufro x Johnson) is bred and owned by Van Baalen. He has been signed by NOP for just four months, until (and including) the 2024 Olympic Games in August.
The NOP Foundation provides financial support to the owners of the horses that have Team NL potential to prevent these horses from being sold. The project was initiated in the 1980s and carried out through the 1990s. Horses competed with the "Olympic" prefix at that time. The project ended due to lack of funding, but was rekindled in 2013.
At the moment only Hermes (Dinja van Liere) and Torveslettens Titanium (Marieke van der Putten) are signed with NOP. Toto Jr (Hans Peter Minderhoud) used to be signed, but no longer carries the suffix.
NOP works closely together with the Dutch Olympic Committee (NOC*NSF) and the board includes Hidde Frankena, Andre Cats, Emile Hendrix, Frank Kemperman and Bram de Feijter.
