Pony rider Madlin Tillmann, children rider Leni-Sophie Gosmann, junior rider Maria Teresa Pohl and young rider Allegra Schmitz-Morkramer became the winners of the 2024 Preis der Besten in Warendorf on 10 - 12 May 2024.

Preis der Besten

Founded in 1973, the Preis der Besten (Prize of the Best) was established for young riders. Until 1994 the event took place indoors in Dortmund. The "PDB" expanded to show jumping and broadened to include junior riders. It took place in Munster-Handorf for two years before finding its permanent home in Warendorf. In 2002 eventing became part of the PDB and in 2014 vaulting was added.

For dressage riders, the Preis der Besten is annually the first German team selection and observation trial for the 2024 European Youth Championships in the summer. The second team qualifier will take place at the CDIO-PJYR Hagen "Future Champions" at Hof Kasselmann in June.

Pony Riders: Madline Tillmann

In the pony division gold went to Madlin Tillmann with the experienced German team pony, Chilly Morning (by Calido G x Sandro Ace), which she began competing this year. Silver went to Leni Sophie Gosmann with Diamantini EA while Feodora von Röder got bronze on Morgensterns Delicius.

Tillmann started with two ponies but only one counted for the overall ranking, otherwise she would have won another silver medal with Mister Prime Time. A successful weekend, because at the same time her father, Frederic Tillmann, completed a clear round on the course of the Hamburg Derby and came second with DSP Comanche.

Tillmann was thrilled, "we got better and better, especially during the test on Sunday, and I really enjoyed it. The trot tour in particular was a lot of fun.” She was also awarded the Harmony Prize.

Children: Leni-Sophie Gosmann

Two Rhinelander girls fought for the gold and silver medal in the children's division.

Leni-Sophie Gosmann from Bottrop took the lead with Andreas Weissmann's 2023 reserve Bundeschampion Filippa AW (by Falihandro). She finished both the first and second with scores over 82 percent and dominated the starting field in her age group. Madlin Tillmann rode Benedetto Marone to the silver medal after a second and third place. Victoria Winkmann and Black or White Bordeaux OLD got bronze.

Junior Riders: Maria Teresa Pohl

Maria Teresa Pohl (Marburg) and Lennox US won the junior division. Silver went to Alix von Borries (Meerbusch) and Feinfühl, bronze to Lily Marie Collin (Düsseldorf) with Famous K FRH.

“I came here expecting, above all, to gain a lot of experience. I haven't ridden that many shows with Lennox yet and that's why I'm even happier with the result," said the winner, who recently switched from training with Semmieke Rothenberger to Andrea Timpe at Gestut Riedmühle.

"The junior age group is currently impressing with very high-class horses and good riding," said team trainer Hans-Heinrich Meyer zu Strohen. "I'm happy that Maresi won here with Lennox, they really are a great pair. We have some new pairs, but also experienced combinations. There are a lot of reserves in the background and we are looking forward to the second observation trial for the European Championships, which will be in Hagen at Kasselmann's farm and then it will be very tight again when it comes to places for the European Championships."

Young Riders: Allegra Schmitz-Morkramer

It was a tight finish in the young riders' division but Allegra Schmitz-Morkramer (Hamburg) and Libertad secured victory. She scored a total of 147.816 points for the victory but had the second placed rider on her heels with 147.790 points. The bronze medal went to Valentina Pistner on Flamboyant OLD with 147.658 points. Allegra and Libertad have now won their third Preis der Besten title. They did so in 2022 and 2023 in the junior division.

“We have an extremely high level of performance among the young riders, which is very valuable for us for the future,” said Hans-Heinrich Meyer zu Strohen.
