Fernando, Shanna Baars' Dutch Junior Team Horse, Sold

Fernando, the horse Shanna Baars rode on the Dutch team at the 2020 European Junior Riders Championships, has been sold. He will continue his sport career under Aniek Hoorn.

Fernando is a 14-year old KWPN gelding by Westpoint out of Lotus (by Donnerhall x Roemer). He is bred by Cees Kikkert.

Marlies Ottevanger

Fernando is out of the same dam line as Dutch Olympic team horse Nadine through his grand dam Charites. He is a half brother to Katie Robicheaux' small tour horse Galandro (by Bon Bravour).

Under rider and owner Marlies Ottevanger, the bay was competed up to ZZ-level between 2016 and 2019. Ottevanger trains at Dressage Stable van Baalen, where Baars is also based

Fernando sold to the Baars family in 2020 as a junior horse for Shanna.

The pair qualified on the Dutch team for the 2020 European Junior Riders Championships in Pilisjaszfalu, where they won team bronze and placed 25th in the individual test.

Baars continued with Fernando at Young Riders level in 2021 through 2023, showing him at 6 CDi's in three years time: Opglabbeek and Exloo in 2021, Opglabbeek and Exloo in 2022 and Geesteren in 2023.

In that period Baars rode on the Dutch Young Riders team with her number one, Farzana G.

Aniek Hoorn

With Shanna now studying law at university and training Farzana G to Grand Prix level, a new rider and owner was sought for Fernando.

"We're training hard to make the transition to Under 25, but are giving Farzana all the time she needs to master the movements," Baars told Eurodressage. "Because I'm still studying we sold Fernando because it's too much otherwise."

The bay has been sold to Aniek Hoorn as a schoolmaster.

Hoorn competed with Ico vd Beekerheide in pony classes at national level in The Netherlands from 2021 through 2023. Last year she rode her first tests on horse TOP's Go for it (by Jazz x Negro), who was previously shown by Karen Nijvelt.
