2024 Portuguese Young Horse Championship

The 4-year old Quinto Imperio Qb , the 5-year old Belcanto HB, the 6-year old Ofley Plus, and the 7-year old Noga became the winners of the 2024 Portuguese Young Horse Championships held at Alter do Chao on 4 - 6 October 2024.

Four new young horse champions were crowned at the event that saw a good turn-out in the four-year old division, but smaller groups in the 5, 6-, and year old division. The fact that the event coincided with the European Lusitano Championships in Cordoba (ESP) will have played a role as several Portuguese horses and their riders opted for this event.

The 4-year old division was won by Frederico Mexia de Almeida aboard the bay Lusitano Quinto Imperio QB (by Jasmim Plus out of Flor Plus). The horse, which has been named after the eponymous board game about the history of Portugal and the Portuguese identity, scored a winning 73.274% in the first rounf and was second in the final round (78.400%) to finish first overall out of 12 competing pairs.

World Young Horse Championship finalists Mafalda Galiza Mendes and her chestnut Hanoverian Belcanto HB (by Benicio x Rascalino) topped the 5-year old division in which five combinations competed. Mafalda and Belcanto were a league of their own and scored far higher than their peers with 88.80 in round 1 and 88.60 in round 2.

Five combinations participated in the 6-year old division and Frederico Mexia de Almeida picked up his second gold medal of the weekend, this time aboard the Portuguese sport horse registered Ofley Plus (by Furst Romancier x Peralta Pinha). They were first in round one with 79.40 points and second in round two with 79.40 points but topped the board overall.

Just two pairs lined up for the 7-year old division which was won by Nuno Almeida aboard Felix Costa's Lusitano bred Noga FC (by Rubi x Xelif). This combination scored the highest marks in both rounds: 75,897% and 75,315%.
