The "German Dressage Derby“ with horse change in Hamburg has been a tradition since 1955, a tradition that will continue in 2025 at the Derby Park Klein Flottbek. However, there will now also be a five-star dressage tour in Hamburg that is independent of the horse change finals.
"With the five-star tour, we want to provide a stage for international top riders within the framework of the „Deutsches Spring- und Dressur-Derby“ in Hamburg," emphasizes Matthias Alexander Rath, Managing Director of the event agency Schafhof Connects. "On Thursday, we will hold the five-star Grand Prix, followed by the field being split up into a group going into Special and a group into the Freestyle, with these two competitions taking place on Saturday."
To make the trip to Hamburg even more attractive for five-star dressage riders, the schedule also offers the opportunity to bring at least two additional horses to the Hanseatic city: firstly through the qualification leg of the Louisdor Prize, the series for eight- to ten-year-old Grand Prix up-and-coming horses, and secondly through the international Small Tour with Prix St. Georges and Intermediaire I.
The qualification for the Derby with horse change will continue to be contested in a Grand Prix at three-star level. The top three from this Grand Prix qualify for the final, while all others get a second chance to start in another Grand Prix. The German Pony Dressage Derby will remain as in previous years. The youngest competitors will continue to measure themselves in their final with pony change. The two Derby finals, which are also audience favorites, will, as tradition dictates, take place on Sunday in Hamburg's dressage arena.
"I believe that we have set up a successful mix of tradition and new impulses with this program," explains Rath. "And on the other hand, we offer a valuable sporting incentive for national and international top riders with the five-star tour, the Louisdor Prize, and the international Small Tour."
