The Brandenburg-Anhalt breeding society reported that one licensed stallion tested positive to medication at the 2025 Brandenburger Stallion Licensing on 8 - 12 January 2025.
This licensing, titled "Schaufensters der Besten," is separate from the big DSP main licensing held in Munich of which Brandenburg is also part.
The breeding society stated on its website:
"As part of the 'Schaufensters der Besten', all licensed stallions have been subjected to routine medication checks for several years. These examinations have produced one finding. Catalog number 41 by Quaterback x Damsey (exhibitor: Stiftung BHLG Neustadt) was found to have been illegally medicated with the active ingredient meloxicam. Unauthorized medication is the use of substances listed in List II of the ADMR. These substances can be used for therapeutic purposes outside of a licensing event. If they are used in connection with the licensing, this will be considered a breach of the rules."
Meloxicam is a well-known NSAID, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to treat pain and inflammation.
"The exhibitor, the Brandenburg State Stud in Neustadt (Dosse), has exercised its right to open the B sample, which was also positive. The corresponding steps in accordance with the medication regulations of the DSP licensing regulations have been initiated. The licensing decision is revoked with immediate effect and the stallion is barred from re-presentation for a period of six months. The further procedure will be handled by an arbitration committee.”
