Janeiro Platinum, Denmark's most popular breeding stallion in 2020, sold to Sweden as a Grand Prix hopeful for Sofie Lexner. He has competed up to small tour level in Sweden but disappeared in the autumn of 2023.
Where is he now?
Breeding Stallion Liked and Disliked
Janeiro Platinum is a 2014 born Dutch warmblood stallion by Sezuan out of Black Beauty L (by UB40 x Ferro x Ramiro Z). He bred by and was originally owned by the Singaporean-Indonesian entrepreneur Titan Wilaras.
He was presented for licensing with the KWPN society but rejected for his walk. He was accepted by the Oldenburg society, but rejected by Hanover.
Janeiro sold as a 4-year old to Andreas Helgstrand in Denmark and was accepted for the Danish warmblood society. He scored 850 points in his Danish Stallion Performance Test with an 8.5 for walk. Helgstrand also presented him for Hanoverian breeding but he was rejected there.
In 2019 and 2020 he was Denmark's most used dressage breeding stallion. In 2020 he covered 151 mares in total in Denmark: 127 Danish warmblood registered mares and 24 mares in Denmark from other breeds. In 2019 his coverings were even higher with 216 mares.
Despite his great breeding numbers he only has two licensed sons, so far: Juwel ( OLD, out of a Sir Donnerhall dam) and Jefferson ABN (HOLST, out of Carpaccio dam).
Slow Start in Sport
As a sport horse, Janeiro was very lightly compete as a youngster.
In June 2019 he returned to the show ring under Anne-Marie Hosbond. They did one local show and then the qualifier for the 2019 Danish YH Championships. They stranded in 17th place in the preliminary round at the 2019 Danish Young Horse Championships and did not make it to the final round.
In 2020 it was Strandby Hansen who did the same routine: compete in one qualifier for the Danish Nationals for the entry ticket. The pair won the class with 97.4 %. The 2020 Danish Young Horse Championships were been cancelled due to Covid-19. He was selected for the Dutch tea for the 2020 World Young Horse Championships, but got withdrawn after his sale to Sweden. The 2020 WCYH were also cancelled due to Covid.
Swedish Olympic Hopeful
Swedish entrepeneur Jenny Linden Urnes of Christinelund Dressage acquired the stallion as a Paris Olympic hopeful for her rider Sofie Lexner.
In 2021 he was approved for Swedish warmblood breeding, scoring 8 for walk, 9 for trot, 7 for his leg, 9 for head, neck and torso and 9 for type. In Sweden he has sired 186 offspring so far, the majority of them born in 2021 (126).
In 2022 Janeiro was pulled from stud duty and gelded to be focused on sport. He did one show in 2022 at Prix St Georges level but was retired from that test.
He returned to the arena 1.5 years later, back at small tour level at a national show in Kimstad on 26 August 2023. He won the Prix St Georges with 76.32%.
Where is He Now?
His start in Kimstad was his last public appearance. Since then the gelding has been recovering from injury.
"At the end of 2023, Janeiro fractured his hock due to an accident," Lexner told Eurodressage. "He has since then been rehabilitated and given time to fully recover. Janeiro is now under saddle again, slowly building strength."
