Tidningen Ridsport reported that Lovsta Stuteri has sent their young breeding and sport stallion Devin Franco GJ back to his former owner and breeder, Gustaf Johansson.
Devin Franco GJ is a 2020 born Swedish warmblood stallion by Vivino out of Sweet Dreams GJ (by Bon Coeur).
He was licensed in 2023 and already was a high scorer in the 3-year old performance test. This year as a 4-year old he did the testing to get his lifetime licensing and was again the top scorer. He covered 70 mares in 2023 and 65 in 2024.
The colt was trained by Swedish 2012 Olympian Minna Telde and initially owned by the breeder.
Lovsta Stuteri
After his winning performance test in April 2024, the bay sold to Lovsta Stuteri as a breeding stallion and future sport horse for Tinne Vilhelmson. When the sales contract was done, a return-clause was included as the stallion seemingly had respiratory problems.
Devin Franco GJ spent almost one year at Lovsta stuteri, but has now been returned.
"When we inspected him before the purchase, Devin had some respiratory problems," Lovsta explained. "Together we agreed to move forward with the purchase, with a reservation for repurchase depending on how it would develop. Unfortunately we have not really been able to fix the problems, and therefore we have decided together with Gustaf that he will go back to him. Devin will be missed, he is an individual that captures the heart of everyone with his positive attitude, impressive rideability and talent. "
Back Home
The bay is now back with Johansson.
"When Devin was sold, he had a slight cough that the vet, after examination, determined to be a common harmless young horse virus that would heal on its own relatively quickly. I personally did not feel worried at all as he has never coughed or had this problem in his previous life. We still conducted the sale with a reservation if we did not come to rectify the problem," Gustaf explained.
Gustaf added, "of all the examinations that have been done, there is nothing that indicates that this would be something congenital or hereditary. Without my own theory, there has been some form of allergy to something in the environment. On the positive side, Devin has been home almost a week now and has not coughed once."
He hopes the stallion will return to the competition ring in 2026.
