Peter Jan Schlüschen, a prominent German-Luxembourg entrepreneur who had a passion for dressage with his own stable and horses, has passed away suddenly on 3 September 2025. He was 83 years old.

Schlüschen made his wealth in the oil business, running a multinational as station chain (Görgen gas stations - Luxoil) out of the Trier area in Germany.

Oil Business

Volksfreund reported that Schlüschen and his wife Marie-Theres joined the management of the Görgen truck stop in 1969 and took over its associated oil distribution company. His mother-in-law, Charlotte Görgen, continued to manage the wholesale mineral oil business.

"With a keen sense for his customers' needs, Schlüschen began adding fast-food restaurants to his gas stations in 1983. Soon, mini-shopping centers, bakeries, and car washes followed. This was considered revolutionary in the industry at the time, and he was one of the first in Germany to implement it," Volsfreund wrote.

In 2020, gas station mogul Schlüschen, who lives in Aach-Neuhaus, sold his eleven gas stations in Germany – almost entirely unnoticed by the public. He sold the majority by the Hessian company Roth-Energie from Gießen.

Horses and Dressage

Schlüschen was the owner of the Sirzenicher Hof riding stable in the Trierweiler industrial park. In August 2025 it was announced that he would be closing the stable.

He is listed in the German FN database as the owner of 31 horses, the breeder of 27 horses, and has competed 7 horses himself in dressage, show jumping and eventing in the 1980s and 1990s up to S* level. His first competition horse was the DDR bred Point (by Pamir x Edelfalk) and his last competition horse was the Rhinelander stallion Djinn (by Domfalk x Obermaat xx).

Schlüschen was known to buy horses at auctions in Germany, including Coco Island OLD for 50,000 euro, Vie En Rose for 50,000 euro, licensed stallion Insight, and the young licensed stallion Quinnley for 58,000 euro.

In recent years he supplied Danish born Luxembourg rider Fie Skarsoe with a string of horses, including Coco Island, Grand Prix horse Garrett (by Unico), and WCYH participant Forte Village (by Feinrich x Johnson).

"We are devastated that Mr Schlüschen has left us unexpected, after almost 15 years of great partnership," Fie Skarsoe told Eurodressage. "I’m able to keep my very talented 8 years old Forte Village and my 5 years old Vasco da Gama."

Over the years at his own yard he supported riders such as Olaf Strohmeyer, Anita Homann (née Klein), Dominic Erhart, Antje Häschke, and Jasmin Claudia Moghaddam.

Charity

As of 2008 he funded holiday camps for 40 to 50 children from financially disadvantaged families in Trier.

Peter Jan leaves behind his wife and two children Jan and Jenny.
