Breeder Steffen Jahn from the Elstertal stud farm in Wolfersdorf, Thuringia, became the recipient of the FN plaque in gold.
He received the award from Carsten Grill, DSP Chairman of the DSP and Breeding Committee chair of the German Equestrian Federation (FN) at the 2026 DSP Stallion Licensing in Munich on 24 January 2026.
Steffen Jahn and his wife Romy Pöhler founded their stud farm on 1 October 1990. Thirty-four years later, 330 home-bred foals are registered. While Haflingers were their breeding focus until 1998, it has long since shifted to German sport horses.
Twelve licensed stallions are now part of the impressive breeding record, including Santo Domingo, once stationed at the Moritzburg State Stud, as well as Vangelis (by Vitalis x Sandro Hit). The stud has produced 21 state premium mares and 87 horses registered for competition sport, many of them successful at S-level. The most Elstertal sport horse is Sissy Max-Theurer's Pathétique (by Quaterback x Casado x Royal Dance) who was shown by Dorothee Schneider until 2020.
Pathétique's great grand dam Paloma is the stud's foundation mare. She has a special history, as this mare from the famous Neustadt P family was exchanged by Steffen Jahn for a Haflinger mare in 1995.
The Elstertal foals carry suffix "GE" in their name.
