2026 Spanish Youth Riders Championships

Children rider Sofia Barroso Keska, junior rider Jesus Girela, and young rider Alfonso Ruiz became the winners of the Spanish Youth Riders Championships at equestrian center Las Cadenas in Camarma de Esteruelas on 4 - 6 September 2026.

In Spain the Children division for riders aged between 12 to 14 the division is open to kids on ponies and not just on horses. In a field of 31 competitors Sofia Barroso Keska and the 9-year old Hanoverian Frido SN (by Finest x Spörcken) were a league of their own with a massive point advantage after three rounds. They scored 80.767% in the preliminary test, 81.875% in the team test, and 73.965% in the individual test for the gold with 236.607 points. Frido sold in 2017 as a foal at the Hanoverian auction in Verden for 11,000 euro. The silver went to David Garcia Garcia on the 15-year old Welsh pony Pippin´s Playboy (by Molenhorn's Lucky Boy) with 219.160 points, while Lucía Castillo Vicens and the 16-year old PRE bred Raton Sol (by Sublime III x Relampago III) got bronze with 217.622 points.

At junior riders' level there were no less than 47 contestants and new comer on the scene, Jesus Girela Garrigosa, impressed judges and crowds by claiming the national title. A student of Juan de Dios Ramírez, Girela rode the 8-year old Hanoverian Vivaldi de Nacarbel (by Le Vivaldi x Dancier x De Niro) to victory thanks to a high scoring Pirates of the Caribbean freestyle on the third and final round. He claimed gold with 68.212% in the team test, 68.412% in the individual test and delivered the edge in the kur with 74.96%. Jesus' horse was imported from Germany by Salvador Toledano and Rafael Ortiz who acquired him from Antonius Schulze-Averdiek as a rising 3-year old at the 2021 DSP Stallion Licensing auction in Neustadt-Dosse. Girela edged out four-time champion Hugo Melida on a new horse, the 13-year old Lusitano Impacto de Lyw (by Cascabel de Lyw). The bronze was for Daniela Cruz Abrey with the 8-year old Oldenburg mare Valentina (by Vitalis).

Thirty-one pairs competed in the Young Riders division and Alfonso Ruiz Velasco worked his way to the highest step of the podium on his long-time partner, the 19-year old De Yakare (by Caciquye x Casto) who competed in his last show in his carer. Ruiz and De Yakare scored 68.323% in the team test, 67.764% in the individual test, and 71.365% in the kur for a winning total of 207.452 points. The silver was for Juan José Ruiz Estebano on the 12-year old KWPN bred Jerezano (by Charmeur) with 206.087 points, while the bronze went to Claudia Lledo Ros on the 15-year old PRE bred Cocktail (by Belcebu x Montanes III) with 203.547 points.
