German young dressage rider Mia Allegra Lohe is slowly stepping back into the limelight as an Under 25 rider after an illustrious career as international pony rider.
From International Pony Success to Clicking with Horses
From team riders that compete at the European Pony Championships, it seems automatically expected that they make a flawless transition into the junior riders' division, but nothing is further from the truth. The transition from ponies to horses is not an easy one and it is only a minority of riders that can stay at the top of their game from ponies going onto horses.
Mia Allegra Lohe and her pony Tovdal's Golden Future Imperial were the 2020 German Developing Pony Rider Champions and went on to to win team gold, individual test silver and kur gold at the 2022 European Pony Championships. At the 2023 European Pony Championships they recaptured team gold. They won bronze at the 2023 German Pony Championships.
In 2024 Lohe made the transition to junior level with the KWPN bred Luxor van de Vrendt (by El Capone x Wynton) but the pair has not yet competed internationally. Lohe disappeared from the CDI spotlight.
Putting Pressure On Herself

"After such a successful pony career, starting a completely new chapter wasn’t always easy. I had experienced so much success at a young age, and naturally, I wanted to continue at that level. The expectations were high, and I also put a lot of pressure on myself to achieve those results again."
She explained that, "Luxor is an incredibly special horse with so much talent and personality, but he is definitely not the easiest. It took us a lot of time, patience and hard work to truly understand each other, build trust and grow together as a team. There were many ups and downs, and moments when things didn’t go the way I had hoped."
In her pony time Lohe trainer at Gut Römerhof with Linda Weiss and Tara Schneider but for her time on horses she switched to German based Belgian Grand Prix rider Johan Zagers.
"My time at Römerhof was something I will always look back on with so much gratitude. I was able to celebrate amazing successes, make unforgettable memories and, most importantly, learn so much. In February 2024 I started training with Johan Zagers and I can honestly say that this was one of the most important steps in our journey," she said.
Back at U25 Level
After a 1.5-year absence from competition, Lohe and Luxor made their comeback at the local show in Hamminkeln in August 2026. They rode an Inter A test. Last weekend they scored 70,307% to place third in the Intermediaire II at the CDN Ankum.

Lessons Learnt
Mia said her time away from the spotlight was a period of learning and self-reflection on what her targets and wishes are in her dressage career.
"Looking back, I have realised that success isn’t just about winning or achieving certain results. It’s about the journey, the challenges you overcome, the lessons you learn and, most importantly, the people who stand beside you along the way," said the 19-year old Lohe.
She added, "that’s why being back at this level and competing at bigger shows again means so much more to me than just a good result. It represents all the patience, hard work and belief that have gone into getting here. I’m incredibly proud of Luxor and how far we have come together. We still have so much to learn and improve, but I truly believe that our journey is only just beginning."
