The popular breeding stallion Escamillo has returned to stud duty this 2023 breeding season. The stallion was previously pulled from standing at stud to be focused on sport, but this year will be combining both jobs.

Escamillo is an 8-year oldRhinelander bred stallion by Escolar out of Casilla (by Rohdiamant – De Niro). He is bred by Carolin Langhorst at Gestüt Tenterhof.

Premium

Owned by American Kimberly Davies-Slous, Escamillo became a premium stallion at the 2017 Hanoverian Stallion Licensing. He did his 14-day suitability test in Neustadt Dosse in April 2018 and scored 9.08 for dressage and 7.38 for show jumping. He did his sport test in February 2019 and got 8.38 for dressage.

The bay, who attracted quite an interest from breeders in his first year at stud, was stationed at Tobias Schult's yard but not competed. He was first presented under saddle by Timo Kolbe and later by Isabell Werth's assistant Lisa Wertnitznig.

Langehanenberg - Dominguez

In 2020 the stallion was pulled from stud duty to be focused on sport and moved to Helen Langehanenberg's yard.

Helen rode him at the start but soon allocated the macho stallion to her assistant, Spaniard Manuel Dominguez Bernal.

The Spaniard rode Escamillo to silver at the 2021 World Young Horse Championships in Verden as a 6-year old and to bronze at the 2022 World YH Championships in Ermelo as a 7-year old.

Aside from his starts at the WCYH, Escamillo has only competed in eight national classes in Germany in the last four years.  At the beginning of March, Manuel rode the stallion to victory in a developing PSG horse test at the CDN Ankum.

Back to Stud

In 2022 Paul Schockemöhle suddenly began offering Escamillo's frozen semen as the stallion's first crop caught the attention at the stallion licensings across Europe. Escamillo has no less than 27 sons approved in Germany, of which seven have made it to Studbook I so far.

For 2023 the stallion will be available with fresh semen again at Schockemöhle in Mühlen.

"The plan was decided at the end of 2022 that Escamillo would be available with fresh semen this year only for a shortened period," owner Kimberly Davies told Eurodressage. "Manuel is driving there to ride him while he is there. I have a couple mares I need to breed with his fresh semen also and this is the perfect timing to offer him to some breeders. His focus is sport so he may not be available next year."

When asked what the competition goal is that she has set out for the horse, Kimberly replied, "no specific target, just the path to Grand Prix."
