HP Vanessa and Best Buddy, Winners of the 2023 Oldenburg Foal Championship

Filly HP Vanessa and colt Best Buddy became the winners of the 2023 Oldenburg Foal Championship held at the Oldenburg headquarters in Vechta, Germany, on Sunday 18 June 2023.

Beautifully set in the sun filled outdoor stadium, the foal championship was part of a busy weekend in Vechta with the Oldenburg Special Edition auction of young sport horses and foals taking place the day before.

The foal inspection committee ended up with four groups for the finals (dressage and jumper bred foals split up in colt and filly divisions) from which they picked the top foals. These are also invited to the Elite Foal Auction on 26 August 2023

In the dressage filly division, Lone Boegh Henriksen's bay filly HP Vanessa received the champion's ribbon. Sired by Lone's co-owned stallion Vitalis, HP Vanessa is out of Flawless (by Foundation x Apache x Furst Romancier). She referred Rolf-Peter Schulze's filly by For Romance out of Diamond Lady (by Diamond Hit x Landadell) to a second place. Clemens von Merveldt's filly by Bon Vivaldi out of Denerys (by Floriscount x Detroit) was third.

In the dressage colt division, the Dutch bred and Oldenburg registered Best Buddy won. Bred and owned by Rieke Kolner, this chestnut colt is by Be My Dancer out of Kagranta (by Uphill x Scandic). The reserve champion was Margrit Koring's Iowa Gold x Foundation x Bordeaux colt, while Gunter Lüschen's colt by Morricone out of Egila (by Diamond Hit x Sir Donnerhall) placed third.
