Swiss team rider Charlotte "Tiggy" Lenherr has become a co-owner of her number one Grand Prix ride Dettori. She announced the news after a personal best performance at the 2026 CDIO Lier.

Dettori is a 13-year old Oldenburg gelding by Desperado out of Diamond Eye (by De Niro x Warkant). He is bred by S. Tietje in Germany.

Licensed

Initially owned by Jan Greve and Rob van Ruitenbeek, the black was licensed as a breeding stallion at the 2016 KWPN stallion licensing. He didn't have a name when he was presented at the licensing, but shortly after his approval was named Dettori after the British legendary racing jockey Frankie Dettori.

He became the winner of the 2016 KWPN Spring Stallion Performance Testing in Ermelo with 85 points.

Sport Career

The ride on the stallion was initially allocated to Marieke van der Putten, but Hans Peter Minderhoud took over after she left as his assistant rider. In 2017 they finished 11th at the Pavo Cup Finals and they were sixth at the 2018 KWPN Stallion competition finals in Den Bosch. In 2019 they were 13th in the semi-finals of the Pavo Cup and did not move on to the top 12 for the final round. In 2020 Minderhoud moved Dettori up to national Prix St Georges level with scores over seventy percent.

By 2021 Dettori owners' group changed to Rob van Ruitenbeek and Carolien van Mourik and they allocated the ride to Dominique Filion. The temperamental stallion made his international show debt in June 2022 at the CDI Geesteren, won bronze at the 2022 Dutch Small Tour Championships and competed in Meerle and Deauville that year.  In 2023 Filion moved him to Grand Prix level and rode two CDI's in Hagen and Kronenberg, where she had to retire him from the Grand Prix test.

The Swiss team rider and triple national champion Charlotte Lenherr obtained the ride on stallion Dettori and premiered him in July 2024 in Samorin, followed by Dielsdorf. He became her second iron in the fire after her team horse Sir Stanley W.

In 2025 Dettori moved into the number one role after CDI's in Basel, Ornago, Stadl Paura, Lier, Wiesbaden, and Dielsdorf. They were nominated on the Swiss team for the 2025 European Championships in Crozet, where a "testosterony" Dettori gave Lenherr a hard ride. They scored 63.882% for 55th place in the Grand Prix.

After Crozet the horse was gelded.  Lenherr returned to competition at the CDI Salzburg, followed by San Giovanni and Ornago in 2026 with improving scores. At last weekend's CDIO Lier they recorded personal bests of 70.131% in the Grand Prix and 71.276% in the Special as best performing Swiss pairs at that show.

Ownership Change

After Lier Lenherr announced that she has become a co-owner.

"I‘ve been riding Dettori for the owners for a couple of years now," Charlotte told Eurodressage. "He came to me initially with the Intention of selling him at some stage. Our journey together has been somewhat turbulent. His amazing talent, looks and ability has always been obvious, his Instruction manual has taken a little time for me to read! He was always such a joy to train and ride at home, it was frustrating when sometimes his hormones got the better of him in the arena.
The owners have always been so supportive throughout, and after Crozet we all decided it would be best for him to be gelded."

The castration has brought about a major change in the horse's rideability.

"

Personal best at the 2026 CDIO Lier
Since then he‘s improved in leaps and bounds! I couldn‘t bear the thought of selling him now so luckily my husband stepped in with a share to keep him for me," Charlotte explained. "I am so so grateful to the owners Rob van Ruitenbeek and Carolin van Mourik for their trust and patience! I feel so very very lucky."
