The Dutch owned Westfalian licensed breeding stallion Future has passed away at age 23. He was euthanized on 30 July 2021 as he was suffering from severe arthrosis.

Future was by Florestan out of Angelina (by Apart x Silvaner). He was bred by XX and was a full brother to the licensed stallion Flovino.

Future was the 2000 Westfalian Licensing Champion in Munster-Handorf, where he was discovered and bought by the late Arie Gordijn of Dressage Stable De Ijzeren Man in Weert.

Future was initially trained up to small tour level by Gordijn's son-in-law Sven Rothenberger.  He competed him, for instance, in the Prix St Georges at a national home show at the 2005 CDN Weert

In April 2008 the stallion moved to Coby van Baalen's stable where he was campaigned for a year by Marlies van Baalen at small tour level. They were competing against Edward Gal and Totilas at the time.

In April 2009 Stephanie Peters took over the ride on the bay stallion. They made their show debut on 5 April 2009 in Hulten finishing third in the Intermediaire II with 67%.

Van den Dungen, Lawsuit

In April 2011 Gordijn handed the ride on Future to Dutch junior rider Maria van den Dungen for one season, after which the stallion would be sold  at the 2011 Dutch Young Star Elite auction on 5 November 2011. Van den Dungen, however, refused to return the horse and Gordijn had to sue Van den Dungen to get his horse back.

The court in Amsterdam ruled that Van den Dungen had to return Future by 14 April 2012 and was allowed to finish the winter season on him.  The horse, however, could already be sold at that auction though.

Future ended up not being offered for sale in this auction, but apparently sold to Austria as a breeding stallion and was meant to be delivered to Austria  after 14 April.

In 2014 the stallion sold to Leo and Marthijs Brouwer and the ride was allocated to Kim de Jonge who continued to show him at M-level in The Netherlands.

He was retired from sport to the field in 2017.

Future was never a very popular breeding stallion but has produced three licensed sons: For Fortune, Future's Dream, and Volare. His daughter Wednesday sold for 160,000 euro at the 2008 Equine Elite Auction, while at the 2007 auction his offspring Valetta (110,000 euro) and Weerman (50,000 euro) also sold well.

Future's most successful offspring in sport is probably Dutch para team rider Nicole Den Dulk's Wallace. The pair won double bronze at the 2014 World Equestrian Games and 2015 European Championships and individual bronze at the 2016 Rio Paralympics.
