German professional dressage rider Marcus Hermes has moved yards, from Haus Gieking in Nottuln to the private yard Gestüt Düvelskotten in Warendorf.
For the past year Hermes had been at the Tecklenborg family's Haus Giesking, an equestrian yard with mote which Patrik Kittel and Lyndal Oatley rented before buying their own property.
"I had a really good time at Gestüt Haus Giesking and I have to thank family Tecklenborg for giving me this opportunity," Hermes explained. "I knew from the beginning that Haus Giesking was for sale. It was openly communicated so I always had a plan B. Now that Gestüt Haus Giesking was sold to Antonia Ramel, I decided to move to Gestüt Düvelskotten."
(editor's note: Eurodressage reached out to Antonia Ramel to confirm the purchase of Haus Giesking. Her lawyer Piotr Wawrzyniak replied in her stead, stating that this information "is not correct. Antonia Ramel is not the buyer of the real estate in Nottuln. In addition, please note that there will be no further comments from Antonia’s side on this matter.")
Rider at Gestüt Düvelskotten
Hermes began his professional career at Hubertus Schmidt's stable before moving to Freiberger Hof in 2014. As of 1 January 2021 he was based independently at Haus Giesking, just 10 kilometers from his previous employer, the Baumgurtel family.
Hermes found his new base at Beatrix and Frank Kühn's Gestüt Düvelskotten.
"I‘m absolutely grateful that Family Kühn always gave me the opportunity to move to their place if Gestüt Haus Giesking was being sold. So now that this has happened there wasn’t such a big stress for me," he said.
Hermes connected with the Kühns when they purchased the 9-year old ride De Luca (by De Niro x Lauries Crusador xx, which he rode.
"De Luca has already been successful on S*** level with me and already won prix St. George with Natalie herself," said Marcus. "She has one more year as a Young Rider and will hopefully make the way to Under 25 level with De Luca. We are training together for one year now."
Best Conditions
Quietly located in the middle of a forest, Gestüt Düvelskotten is being refurbished and expanded to become a state of the art property.
"I‘m really happy, because we have the best training conditions, best food standards and everything here is really well thought out," said Marcus. "For me it’s important that my horses can go out a lot and have enough possibilities to relax next to the training. And this is absolutely given here at Gestüt Düvelskotten."
Hermes took 16 horses to Düvelskotten, joined by groom Ance Polane and his assistant rider Anna Muster.
