Semmieke Rothenberger's injured achilles tendon

German Grand Prix rider Semmieke Rothenberger is sidelines with an achilles' injury and will not be competing at the 2022 German Dressage Championships in Balve this weekend.

Balve is the first of two German team selection trials for the 2022 World Championships Dressage in Herning.

Rothenberger announced on Instagram that she needs a week rest because of a tendon issue.

"Shit happens. Today I have to get an MRT because of a very painful achilles tendon," Semmieke explained. "This now means I need to take it easy for seven days: cooling it, limping and a forced rest. This also means that Nelly and I are out for the German Championships. So annoying. I hope to be better soon and back on the horse."

Rothenberger made the move into the senior division in 2022 with her 12-year old Dutch warmblood Flanell (by Apache x Don Schufro). Last year they won Team and Kur Gold at the 2021 European Under 25 Championships and the Piaff Forderpreis Finals.

Semmieke and Flanell competed in three CDI's so far this season, achieving Grand Prix test scores of 71.892% in Le Mans, 73.152% in Hagen, and 72.587% in Mannheim.
