German Olympian Helen Langehanenberg has made a winning international show debut aboard the French owned horses Zaeta de Malleret and Golden Romance Malleret PS.
Helen selected the World Cup Qualifier and 3* international dressage show in Samorin, Slovakia, with its spacious arenas and quiet surrounding as the perfect venue for her to present the 8-year old Zaeta and the 7-year old Golden Romance for the first time in front of an international panel of judges.
Four Victories
Langehanenberg and Zaeta de Malleret (by Zonik x Sir Donnerhall) dominated the small tour division, scoring a hattrick with three victories out of three starts. In a field of nine competitors, the pair won the Prix S Georges with 73.794%, the Intermediaire I with 73.588%, and the Intermediaire I Kur to Music with 78.135%.
With Golden Romance Malleret PS (by Governor x Sir Donnerhall), she contested the 7-year old division and was second in the preliminary test on 78.090% and won the Finals test with 80.557%
Zaeta has been in training with Helen since May 2021 and she was first focused on some national showing before stepping onto the international stage. Golden Romance joined the barn in March of this year.
"It was absolutely incredible," Langehanenberg told Eurodressage. "Both horses couldn't have behaved better at their first international show - and from A to Z. They also tolerated the heat well. In the competitions, they showed themselves to be much more mature. If you want to put it that way, they have grown up. In the collection exercises, for which they both have a lot of potential, they gained even more strength. Overall, they could not have done much better. I am extremely happy about the development of "Zaeta" and "Golden".
The Future Lies Ahead
Gérald Martinez, manager of Haras de Malleret in Le Pian Medoc (FRA), is thrilled with the progress they make under Helen's care.
"We have been working with Helen for 2 years now and it is very important for me, for Malleret, to have one of the best riders in the world on two of our horses," said Martinez. "It is not only this point that makes our cooperation a success, but is also the great professionalism, the exceptional humility, a philosophy turned towards the respect of the horses as animals above all; to ride them and to work with them with a daily plan that keeps them happy and healthy through various programs, put them every day in the fields, etc… It is for all these essential parameters for me that makes our collaboration so far a success! I'm grateful to Helen and hope our partnership can last for a long time."
Langehanenberg also believes in a future at the highest level for these talented Malleret youngsters, but she will take it one step at a time.
"Further training will clearly be done in consultation with the owners," said Helen. "There is the plan to keep practising until Grand Prix. So far it looks like both of them have the talent for it. Zaeta de Malleret is already showing some nice approaches in piaffe-passage work and we are already feeling our way through the flying changes at every stride. Golden Romance Malleret PS shows a beautiful passage. And in hand he already has good piaffe steps. Now we have to bring this under the saddle as well. And all in all, of course, it's always about fine-tuning. And the routine in the exercises. In any case, I am very much looking forward to our further journey together!“
