Verbier (by Von und Zu x Dancier) was named champion of the 2024 Oldenburg Stallion Licensing in Ankum on Sunday 21 January 2024.

The 2024 Oldenburg Stallion Days atypically took place at the Sport + See Hotel in Ankum as the Oldenburg Horse Center in Vechta is undergoing renovations.

A collection of 39 colts out of 47 pre-selected was presented and 22 were accepted. Six made it into the premium ring.

Striking to note is that Helgstrand Dressage, who was quite absent from the Licensings in Hanover and Westfalen in the autumn of 2023, saw two of his three presented colts approved in Oldenburg.

Verbier, Champion of the Licensing

The champion of the licensing was the Hanoverian bred colt by Hanoverian premium stallion Von Und Zu, who presents his first crop of offspring at licensings now, and out of Delailah (by Dancier x St. Moritz x Rotspon). The bay Verbier is bred by Monika Rösemeier-Harms and owned by Ursula Berger. Johannes Westendarp prepared and handled the stallion at the licensing.

Oldenburg's breeding director Bernhard Thoben said about the champion stallion: "Still a somewhat youthful stallion, but very uphill in conformation and with a very natural way of moving. On the lunge he presented himself in a beautiful, incredibly relaxed and supple manner. In freedom he showed great elasticity right from the start and was generous in his movements."

This colt sold for 720,000 euro at the auction following the licensing to Swedish Antonia Ax:son Johnson of Lovsta Stuteri.

Top Three

A bay stallion by Escolar out of Eve (by Fürst Heinrich x Figaro x Harlekin), bred by trainer and horse photographer Maria Burczyk and owned by Maurice Tebbel was named reserve champion. He sold for 400,000 euro to an ambitious entrepreneur from Poland who has begun investing in dressage sport.

The third ranked premium stallion was a colt by Dynamic Dream out of Barbados (by Bordeaux x Fürst Piccolo x Wolkenstein II), bred by Arndt Schwierking and owned by the breeder in partnership with Waering, Barver. He sold for 120,000 euro

Six in the Premium Ring

Reserve champion by Escolar x Furst Heinrich

This year six colts made the premium ring. The other three, unranked colts were:

Colt by Danciero out of Longines (by Londontime - Danone I - Sandro Hit), bred by Arndt Schwierking and owned by Helgstrand Dressage. Dam Longines is the sister of the licensed Blue Hors Londoner (by Londontime x Christian Tudela Ruiz).

The Dutch bred colt by Desperado out of Meggie May (by El Capone x Rousseau x Jazz), bred and owned by Van Bockxgrave Horses. He sold for 120,000 euro and will move to Lodbergen.

Colt by Viva Gold out of Fräulein Salome (by Florencio I x Sandro Hit x Rubinstein I), bred by Dieter Erdmann and owned by Gorodok Agro Llc, Ukraine. He sold for 157,000 euro to south Germany.

Auction

Schockstrand bought this Global Player x Furstenball

The average price for a licensed stallion was 149,357 euro, for a non-licensed stallion 18,333 euro.

Paul Schockemöhle and Helgstrand Dressage co-invested in the Global Player x Furstenball and had the hammer fall on 170,000 euro during the auction.

The most expensive non-licensed stallion was a Vitalis x Bonds x San Amour which moved to Sweden for 27,000 euro. Also going to Sweden are the licensed Bon Courage x Quaterback for 30,000 euro and the non-licensed Dynamic Dream x Furstenball for 16,000 euro and the non-licensed Franklin's Love x Zonik for 10,000 euro
