Vaderland OLD, the internationally competed small tour horse and breeding stallion, has been sold to Germany. Horses.nl broke the news that German Grand Prix rider Bernadette Brune acquired the stallion.
Vaderland is an 8-year old Oldenburg registered stallion by Vitalis out of Vechta (by Krack C x Contango). He is bred by the late Piet Crum in The Netherlands.
Licensed, Positive Medication Test
Presented by Eugene Reesink, Vaderland was one of three reserve champions of the Westfalian Stallion Licensing in Munster in November 2018. He sold at auction for 370,000 euro to a mystery buyer from Belgium but in the end the ownership never changed to another name.
The stallion moved to stand at stud with Reesink's German business partner Matthieu Beckmann, who at the time stated that he leased the stallion from Dutch horse investor Jan-Pieter Dalsem, who invests in horses through Reesink.
In January 2019, Vaderland's licensed status was revoked when the doping test turned out positive to the sedative acepromazine. In March 2019 the Westfalian studbook re-licensed him and the doping test then was negative.
Breeding and Sport
Vaderland became quite a popular breeding stallion in Germany.
He did his 14-day suitability test in Adelheidsdorf in the spring of 2019 and scored 8,74 for dressage and 6,35 for jumping, totalling 7.83 points. He did his first sport test in Verden in March 2020, scoring 8,48. His final phase for life-time licensing he did by scoring 8.0 in the BuCha qualifier in Freudenberg in July 2021.
So far he sired 3 licensed sons in Germany of which only Versace Deluxe is entered in studbook I so far. Vaderland OLD was named 2023 VTV Dressage Stallion at the Oldenburg Stallion Days
In sport, he began making his mark in 2020 under Annika Korte. He won bronze at the Oldenburg Young Horse Championships held not in Rastede but Vechta due to corona.
He did not compete in Germany after July 2021. Vaderland resurfaced on the Dutch show scene under Dinja van Liere at small tour level in September 2023. A month later they made a winning CDI debut in Leeuwarden. They were second this weekend in the small tour at the 2024 CDI 's Hertogenbosch.
Sold to Brune
Vaderland has now been sold to Bernadette Brune of Gestut Brune.
"I bought him for me to get back in the sport," Bernadette told Eurodressage. When asked what the qualities are she particularly liked Bernadette replied, "the talent for piaffe/passage and his sweet character."
He will no longer be actively standing at stud as sport will be his main priority. "He will be available at Reesink with frozen semen."
Brune also owns the sport and breeding stallion San to Alati (by Secret x Belissimo M), who won the 2022 Hanoverian Young Horse Championships and placed 14th at the World Young Horse Championships. He stands at stud at Holkenbrink's.
