Swedish professional dressage rider Malin Wahlkamp-Nilsson had her successful premier on new ride Sam at the 2024 CDI Sint-Truiden in Belgium on 4 - 7 April 2024.
Fifteen Grand Prix pairs competed in Sint-Truiden in Friday's Grand Prix and judges Tissot, Wolters, Halsall, Falth, and Smeets awarded a winning score of 70.348% to Malin Nilsson on Arlette Jasper's home bred 11-year old Oldenburg Sam (by Sezuan x Licotus). The pair went on to win the Special with 71.043%. The pair was originally entered to compete at the CDI Aachen Festival 4 Dressage but postponed their CDI debut by a week to the smaller show at Sint-Truiden. The horse was competed once internationally before by Sascha Schulzat the 2018 CDI Leudelange in the 5-year old test.
"Two international wins on his first go! Both GP & GPS," Malin took to Instagram. "So happy for the progress he is making and earning more and more experience. Today (GP Special) was not so easy with the speakers doing weird noises when we where riding the test but he stayed with me and is starting to show what the future holds for him."
Sint-Truiden return guest, German Kirstin Biermann, landed second place in the Grand Prix on her long-time big tour partner, the 15-year old Oldenburg mare Queensland (by Quaterback x Davignon II). They got 69.196% and edged out German Carina Scholz on her new international ride, the former Belgian 2017 WCYH team horse Quinto (by Quaterback x De Niro). Scholz and the 13-year old posted 68.130% in the Grand Prix.
In the Grand Prix Special Turkish born American Lina Uzunhasan and the 10-year old Rhinelander Furst Fabelhaft (by All at Once x Fidermark) landed second place with 69.213% after an 8th spot in the Grand Prix on (66.152%).
"Lots of things to work in still and few mistakes in the test (GP Special) keeping us from higher scores but so proud of my little pony and the journey we’re on together with our little team," Lina explained.
German Maik Kohlschmidt topped the board in the Kur to Music on Sunday for which just three riders stayed. On the 12-year old Danish bred mare Pasadena (by Tailormade Lancelot x Provider) he moved into the winner's circle with 71.05%.
