German squad rider Katharina Hemmer has received the ride on two exciting FEI horses, Escolux and Filigrano Marone.
Both horses are owned by Sammy Höner and Ben Broshi and were previously ridden by Thomas Wagner.
Filigrano Marone
Filigrano Marone is a 13-year old Westfalian by Furstenball out of Shakira (by Sandro Hit x Laurentianer). He is bred by Alfons Brünen.
He was first competed as a 4-year old by Angelika Mayr in 2015 for owner Judith Pfeifer. A four year gap followed in his show career.
The horse resurfaced in February 2019 under Thomas Wagner. He competed from small tour level to Grand Prix. In 2019 they showed in the Nurnberger Burgpokal qualifiers and in 2020 in the Louisdor cup qualifiers.
In 2021 the pair qualified for the Louisdor Cup Finals and finished 11th. Wagner showed the horse at Grand Prix level nationally through March 2024 but never rode a CDI with him.
Filigrano underwent several ownership changes: from Pfeifer to Elizabeth Morell (née Wolf) in the autumn of 2020 and then to Austrian Juliane Jerich. Sammy Höner and Ben Broshi bought Filigrano from Jerich at the beginning of this spring.
Escolux
Escolux is a 9-year old Westfalian by Escolar out of Schmuckstück (by St. Moritz x Bonheur). He is bred by Simon Kohlenbrenner.
The bay began his sport career under Ann Christin Wienkamp who first competed him in 2020. They pair competed at the 2020 Bundeschampionate in Warendorf and finished 35th in the 5-year old consolation finals. She competed him through May 2022 up to S* level. The horse sold to Höner and Broshi.
Escolux' next rider was Thomas Wagner, who premiered him at S-level in February 2023 in Darmstadt-Kranichstein. The pair competed in the Nurnberger Burgpokal qualification circuit (Mannheim, Balve, Bettenrode, Elmlohe, Gorlitz, and Darmstadt). At the 2023 Burgpokal Finals in Frankfurt, they were 11th in the finals out of 12 pairs. Their CDI debut was in the small tour at the 2023 CDIO Aachen where they placed 10th and 12th.
Wagner produced the horse to Grand Prix level and campaigned him in the 2024 Louisdor cup qualifier in Hagen, where they were 9th. Their last start was in Winterlingen on 26 May 2024, where they won.
With Hemmer at Fleyenhof
The Höner-Borshi duo have now sent both horses to Katharina Hemmer, who is based at Hubertus Schmidt's Fleyenhof in Paderborn.
Hemmer is only just getting acquainted with the two new rides and will make show plans at a later stage.
"It's too early to make any plans," she told Eurodressage. "The horse's are in very good condition. We take our time to get to know them and to figure everything out and we'll see how everything goes and then make plans."
Last weekend, Hemmer rode Denoix PCH to a 5th, 6th and 8th place at the German Dressage Championships and captured herself a spot on the prestigious German CDIO-team for Aachen in July.
