Campari W, a well known Danish dressage pony who has carried 7 riders to international FEI level, has been retired from sport at age 22.

Campari W is a 2002 born German Riding Pony by Champagner W out of Dancing Girl B (by Derano Gold x Danny Black)? He is bred by Hilda Wassmann

Start in Germany

The pony started his career in Germany, first at the 2004 Weser Ems Pony Stallion Licensing where he was accepted. He never did a performance test and bred only very briefly.

He has only five offspring registered for sport in Germany, amongst them one licensed son, Caspar W (international dressage pony under Belgian Helena Theeuwes).

He was first competed as a 3-year old by Catharina Wassmann, followed by Charlott-Maria Schürmann who rode him to silver at the Weser Ems Pony Championships as well as the 2005 Bundeschampionate.

In 2006 he was shown by Patricia Andler and in 2007 by Nicola Krause. In 2008 it was Lena Schütte's turn. They made their international show debut at the CDI Bonn in 2008. They were third at the 2009 German Pony Championships.

Campari W sold to Denmark where he continued his extensive show career under a large set of riders.

He was acquired by Jette Nevermann, the former Danish national pony team trainer, and the ride was first allocated to Caroline Bording Schmidt who won bronze on him with the Danish team at the 2010 and 2011 European Pony Championships. They also got silver at the  2011 Danish Pony Championships. In 2012 Nikoline Ravn Jensen began showing the liver chestnut for two years. They were named team reserves for the 2012 and 2013 European Pony Championships.

He then sold to Jonnhild Hanssen for daughter Victoria Christine Hansen to ride. They made their CDI debut in 2015 placed sixth at the 2016 Danish Pony Championships, after which Dagmar Sofie Oxlund followed in 2017. She made her CDI debut in 2018 and won silver at the 2018 Danish Pony Championships.

In 2020 he sold to the Dietz family and became a family pony for daughters Gry and Nynne Dietz Viborg. Nynne brought Campari back to the international show ring in 2023. She also competed Campari in his very last show, the 2024 Danish Pony Championships, scoring 66.795% in his last test.

Retirement

At age 22 the pony will now be retired from competition sport.

"He is just a very special pony, he is almost always happy and is so funny in everyday life," the Dietz family told Ridehesten. "He's a bit of a bully and doesn't give up, so you really have to fight to make it work with him, but at the same time he's also a friend you can be comfortable with."

Dietz continued, "he really is our heart pony, and we are so insanely happy about the experiences that our family has had with him. It's really hard right now, but we're also crying out of gratitude for this wonderful pony. He has deserved to finish while he is fit and healthy, and although he is still young at heart, he is getting old in body. That's why he will be retired at home and enjoy himself."
