Utah Beach Named 2024 KWPN Foal Champion

The colt Utah Beach was named the champion of the 2024 KWPN Foal Championship on 26 July 2024.

Twelve foals were selected to battle it out for the title and they were judged by Bart Bax, Wouter Plaizier and Luuk Smetsers.

"Foals change weekly and one day they perform better than the other, but today we saw the creme de la creme," said Smetsers. "They were complete foals with athleticism, a good self carriage and an excellent way of moving."

Utah Beach was named the champion. The chestnut colt by L'Avenir out of elite mare Jinola (by Dream Boy). He is bred by the Knoops family and owned by L'Avenir's owner Saskia Poel.

"He is uphill built, has much expression, good musculature, and a good forehand. His walk is active and his trot is uphill and over the back from the first step. He was lovely in the frontleg. In canter he had much expression and lightfootedness," said the judges panel.

The reserve champion's title went to Ugo (by Obsession Taonga x Furst Romancier), bred by J. Woudsma.

"He's a strong and correctly built foal with good length in his body and ground covering gaits. He showed much flexion in his joint and kept the cadence and rhythm without speeding up."

The third place went to Unino (by Bon Courage x Uphill), bred by M. Kolner and co-owned with J. Bloem.
