Australian dressage couple Paul and Emma Weel have partnered up with Helgstrand Dressage on the popular Oldenburg breeding stallion So Perfect to secure his future for global sport and breeding.

The Weels have set a new wheel in motion by founding the company, Riveroak Equestrian Sports GmbH. It will be the business behind supporting top dressage sport, developing high quality horses, and matching talented horses to the right riders, both in Australia and Europe.

So Perfect

Their co-ownership of So Perfect is part of the company strategy: not only obtaining high quality dressage horses, but also breeding stallions, which can shape modern dressage horse breeding.

So Perfect is a 7-year old stallion by Sezuan out of Shakikra (by Sir Donnerhall x Rohdiamant). He is bred by Frank Nordhausen and was owned by Helgstrand Dressage.

Helgstrand presented him together with co-owner Heiko Klausing at the 2019 Oldenburg Stallion Licensing in Vechta, where he was named reserve champion. He went on to become a premium stallion at the 2020 Danish Warmblood Stallion Licensing in Herning.

The dark bay stallion did his 14-day suitability test in Denmark in March 2020 scoring 8,05 points. A year later he fulfilled the 35-day performance test in Denmark with 842 points. He is approved for all major German studbooks.

Breeding Legacy

He became one of Helgstrand's most popular breeding stallions, which put his sport career on the back-burner. He first competed in Denmark as a 5-year old in June 2022. Under Betina Jager he finished 7th at the 2022 Danish Young Horse Championships. He did one show in 2023. So far he hasn't competed in Germany.

So Perfect has made his name as a sire, stamping his offspring. At his young age he has already sired seven licensed sons in Germany and has produced numerous top selling offspring at auctions in Europe, including youngster Semper Royal (120,000 euro) and foal Brix So Special (65,000 euro).

Acquired for Australia, Stays in Germany

So Perfect has now come in Australian ownership but will remain in Germany. The Weels have allocated the ride on So Perfect to Leonie Richter for the next four years.

"We plan to have him developed step by step into the top sport, without pressure or stressing the training by a 'perhaps sale' or busy live cover season," said Paul Weel. "Leonie will be supported by her current trainers Eva and Ulf Möller."

So Perfect will continue to stand at stud but his book will be closely monitored by Viola Abrahams and Ulf Moeller. Any questions concerning the stallion should be addressed to them.  Frozen semen is available worldwide in top quality.

Global Partnership

Paul and Emma Weel
At the start of the summer the Weels began their dressage development project by purchasing Lord Extra (by Lord Europe x Donnerschwee) for Matthew Dowsley to ride, For Real (by Blue Hors Farrell x Lord Loxley) for Emma to campaign, and Santiago-H (by Apache x Donnerhall) who is currently being produced by Eva Moller as an intended ride for daughter Abby Weel.

"We are developing a great global partnership based on true teamwork as we try to bring the best together," Weel stated. "We are thrilled to offer Leonie a chance of a lifetime to produce So Perfect to Grand Prix level. We think she's a fabulous rider and believe in her."
