The KWPN breeding association has announced that it will be reinstating the naming of a licensing champion at the 2025 KWPN Stallion Licensing in 's Hertogenbosch.
No Champions Since 2020
Since 2020 the KWPN society only named premium stallions and ranked them equally, letting breeders decide for themselves which stallion was the best of the licensing.
At the time KWPN stated, "by doing a premium lot of stallions, the most complete stallions will be extra in the spotlight. This will show in which direction we want to go with breeding. "
Champion Named Again as of 2025
The new board of directors understood that it creates a lacklustre finale to the important licensing and is making a U-turn.
"With the championship ring, we want to add more excitement to the program,” said Ralph van Venrooij, head of Breeding Affairs. “In 2020, we said goodbye to the championship ring and the premium stallions were not placed in order.”
Van Venrooij continued, "premium stallions will continue to exist, but on top of that we want to appoint a champion stallion. Of course, the championship inspection remains a snapshot, but we know that the public always experiences a lot of emotion during such a highlight of the stallion inspection. We would like to bring that back, so that the stallion selection becomes even more interesting to follow and also has a banging end.”
A champion and reserve champion will therefore be named at the 2025 licensing which is on 29 January - 1 February 2025.
