Polish Grand Prix team rider Zaneta Skowronska-Kozubik has retired her main Grand Prix horse, Love Me, from sport.

Love Me is a 17-year old Hanoverian by Locksley II out of Warina (by Walt Disney x Lemon xx x Seefischer). He is bred by Bernd Meyer in Germany.

The chestnut gelding sold as a young horse to Polish team captain Andrzej Salacki who allocated the ride to his long-time student, Zaneta Skowronska.

She produced the horse to Grand Prix level at the same time as her number one in the barn, Romantic P. The latter played first fiddle for Polish team selection, but Love Me built up a solid performance record in his own right.

Zaneta debuted him at small tour level as a 7-year old in 2014, winning their first international test, a Prix St Georges, in Zakrzow.  They further contested the CDI's in Radzionkow and Brno.  The pair moved up to Grand Prix level in November 2016 when the horse was 8, posting 66.720% in their first CDI big tour test in Zakrzow.  In 2017 they competed in Mariakalnok, Achleiten and Brno.

A five-year break from international showing followed and Love Me returned to the arena under Skowronska in 2022 in Brno. In 2023 they competed in Bialy Las and Wroclaw and won the 2023 Polish Grand Prix Championships.

Olympic Dream

In 2024 the stakes were high as Poland had qualified a team for the Olympic Games in Paris.

Skowronska and Love Me collected team selection scores in Motesice, Wroclaw, Gosciszow, Olomouc and Achleiten and were nominated on the Olympic team.

Unfortunately dreams were shattered in Paris when Love Me did not pass the vet check. The pair was replaced by travelling reserve Aleksandra Szulc on Breakdance.

Retirement

Skowronska told Eurodressage that Love Me has been retired from competition sport.

Their partnership was celebrated with a special retirement ceremony during the 2024 Art Cup, organized by Anetta and Andrzej Salacki, last September.

"This wonderful horse is still ridden and doing great," Zaneta told Eurodressage about Love Me's retirement. "He is with my friend who looks after him and rides him.
