Greta Heemsoth's rising Grand Prix horse Anthrazit has passed away. He was 11 years old and considered one of Germany's to watch Grand Prix horses for the future.

Anthrazit was a Westfalian gelding by All at Once out of Weltluna (by Weltmeyer x Lungau x Presto). He was bred by Heinz Schütte.

Young Horse Success

Scouted and bought by Ingo Pape, Anthrazit was trained up to Grand Prix level by Greta Heemsoth.

She debuted him in 2017 as a 3-year old and gradually moved him up the levels. Their first major Championship was the Bundeschampionate in 2019 where they finished 13th in the 5-year old finals. In 2020 they were 8th in the 6-year old finals. They were also nominated on the German team for the 2020 World Young Horse Championships but the event was cancelled due to corona.

In 2021 Greta and Anthrazit were nominated on the German team for the 7-year olds for the WCYH in Verden, but ended up not going.

Rise to Grand Prix

In 2022 the pair competed in two S-level and PSG Special tests in Osterholz and Buckholz after which a 16-month break from showing followed.

They returned at the Nurnberger burgpokal qualifier at Hof Bettenrode in July 2023 and then took another 8-month break from showing to prepare the horse for Grand Prix level. They came back in Handstedt in March 2024 for their first Inter II test after which they campaigned on the developing Grand Prix circuit in Germany.  In 2024 they finished 9th in the Louisdor Cup Finals.

In 2025 they rode themselves further in the picture by winning the national grand Prix and Special with 72% scores at the CDI-W Neumunster. Three weeks later they made their international show debut directly at Grand Prix level at the CDI Herning, where they were second in the Grand Prix (69.587%) and Special (69.617%).

Sad Farewell

Anthrazit had not been competed since Herning and was sidelined due to an injury.

On 17 May Heemsoth announced that Anthrazit has passed away. The cause of his passing was not disclosed.

"I could write a whole novel how much I miss Alfi, but even a hundred thousand pages would not do justice to his complex, intelligent, playful, kind-hearted and yet always cheeky and pointy creature.  Alfi and I were more than ‘just friends’ we had a deep connection that may be hard for outsiders to comprehend and I would do anything possible to be able to spend just one last minute with him."

The heartbroken Greta added, "It's not fair that he had to go.. I fear he has taken the happiest part of me with him."
