Retired international dressage judge Angelika Frömming has been awarded with the German Riders Cross in gold. This is the highest distinction the German Equestrian Federation gives to its members for lifetime contribution to equestrian sport.
She received the award at the Bundeschampionate in Warnendorf on 7 September 2025.
Frömming holds a degree in business administration, is an amateur riding instructor, holds the Golden Riding Badge, and was an international dressage judge for many years. She has co-authored specialist books and contributed to the further development of the FN guidelines for riding and driving, which still form the basis of training today. She has worked as a dressage judge in more than 40 countries or conducted seminars and clinics on behalf of the FEI. A particular highlight was her work as a commentating judge at the World Championships for Young Dressage Horses in Verden.
For 18 years, she trained and examined junior judges in Warendorf and Munich, for which she received the Riders Cross in silver in 2008. She also played a key role in having classical German riding recognized as an intangible cultural heritage by Unesco.
Even at the age of 84, the Sassenberg native is still active: As a speaker at the German Riding School in Warendorf, as a valued advisor for the FN training department, and through lectures on the history of riding and seminars for horse owners and masters, she tirelessly passes on her knowledge.
Editor's note: Frömming has been one of Eurodressage expert columnists since 2011
