Former Dutch team rider Emmelie Scholtens has announced her pregnancy with her first child. The baby is due January 2022.
The news of the pregnancy comes as a silver lining to a year in which Scholtens saw her Olympic dream evaporate. In the spring she had to withdraw her top ride Desperado (by Vivaldi x Havidoff) from Dutch Olympic team contention as he was not fit to compete.
Scholtens has been a member of the Dutch team at the 2018 World Equestrian Games (on the late Apache) and at the 2019 European Championships in Rotterdam (on Desperado).
Father of the baby is Emmelie's long-time life partner Jeroen Witte, son of Dutch horse dealer Nico Witte.
