Yesterday evening, the CDI Dortmund pulled the plug out of its 2021 edition, which was already a postponement from its March dates to December.

This is the second major international indoor competition in Germany, which is getting cut from the calendar at the end of 2021. The stringent hygiene safety measures in Germany and reduced seating capacity make hosting such large scale events difficult and not financially viable.

Stuttgart and Dortmund

In September the organizers of the CDI Stuttgart announced that their World Cup qualifier would not take place and yesterday Kasper Funke's Escon Marketing company cancelled the CDI Dortmund which was scheduled for 9 - 12 December 2021.

Dortmund was already pushed to December from its normal March dates because the second corona lockdown was still in full swing at that time.

"The current development of the corona pandemic with an increasing infection rate will not allow us to draft a secure planning for visitors and the build-up of the show," said the organizer.

Second Blow

This is the second major blow for Funke's show organizing company. A month ago his CDI Oldenburg dealt with a mass exodus of riders who complained about the bad footing.

In 2020 the CDI Dortmund was in full swing the Europe went into full lockdown during the first corona wave. The show closed earlier and already had a reduced capacity of 1000 people on Sunday morning after Ingrid Klimke had won the Grand Prix.

The only CDI left on the calendar in Germany is Frankfurt on 16 - 19 December, where the 2G (Vaccinated or Recovered) rule counts for visitors.
