On the fifth and final day of pre-selection for the 2022 KWPN Stallion Licensing, eighteen colts of the 52 presented candidates were selected for the second phase.

Five consecutive days from 5 - 10 December 2021 the KWPN licensing committee members Bert Rutten, Wouter Plaizier and Johan Hamminga assessed the 2.5 year old licensing candidates. They gave a pass to a total of 79 colts.

Just Wimphof

On the final day of pre-selection, the offspring of KWPN bred sires got the opportunity to present themselves.  In the previous four days it stood out that many German sired colts (Toto Jr, For Ferrero, For Romance, Totilas) bettered their more Dutch bred peers.

On 10 December the Dutch bred Just Wimphof (whose pedigree is very German influenced with De Niro x Riccione) got the opportunity to present his offspring. Just Wimphof had the most foals born in 2019 (348) and twenty sons of this 2019 crop were registered for the pre-selection.

The committee accepted seven of them for the second phase.

Kingston, Imposantos

The other two Dutch sires that stood out with their offspring were Blue Hors Kingston (by Toto Jr x Turbo Magic) and Imposantos (by Wynton x Krack C). Kingston had three sons accepted, while Imposantos, who only got licensed as a 4-year old, presented offspring from his first crop of foals and two of them were selected for the licensing.

"It was a good day today and we selected a nice group of colts, including some with very interesting bloodlines. We also saw that in the group of Just Wimphof sons, from which we were able to select a few very complete colts," said Bert Rutten. "In general the sons of Just Wimphof that we selected had an uphill conformation and moved with uphill tendency. From the first crop of Kingston we selected three well moving sons who move well from behind."

Den Bosch or Ermelo

One more pre-selection day will take place for colts who couldn't make their appearance on the regular days due to various reasons.

The KWPN Stallion Licensing is scheduled for the first week of February. Normally it takes place in 's Hertogenbosch, but with corona it might be relocated to Ermelo for the second year in a row.
