French professional dressage rider Claudia Chauchard and the Belgian bred and Oldenburg registered Apachi van de Biebosschen became the winners of the 2023 French Championships for 7-year olds which were held in Le Mans on 20 - 21 October 2023.
For the seventh year running, these 7-year old championships were held in Le Mans. A field of 17 horses participated in the two-round Championship.
Title for Apachi van de Biebosschen
Chauchard and Apachi van de Biebosschen (by Apache x Don Frederico x Hohenstein x Weltmeyer) were unbeatable, topping the board twice and taking the title and gold medal. They won the 7-year olds preliminary test with 75.024% and the final round with 77.965% to produce a winning average of 76.494%.
Claudia finally saw her efforts rewarded after careful training of the horse up the level. The pair twice represented France at the World Young Horse Championships in Ermelo. In 2022 they were 6th in the 6-year old consolation finals, and this year they finished 15th in the 7-year old finals.
Apachi van de Biebosschen is bred by Els Cooremans in Belgium and has been Oldenburg registered. He sold as a foal at the 2016 Prinsjesdag foal auction in The Netherlands tfor 6,500 euro o Dutch horse dealer Bernoski, who renamed him Aznavour. Robin Bernoski competed him in the Netherlands as a young horse and he sold to Chauchard in December 2020. Claudia changed his name back to the original name, respecting the breeder’s choice with Apachi van de Biebosschen. Chaudard now co-owns Apachi with Annabel Moreau.
"He is really a true superstar," Claudia told Eurodressage. "I am expecting a lot for him. We will go for the small tour for one year, so he can build his self confidence, as he can have a real 'small heart'. He is already on his way to Grand Prix, so we will keep on training at home. All the (top) horses from the French 7-year old Championships of the last years are now team Grand Prix horses , so I will expect the same future for him as well."
Silver for Loudzi Gold
The silver medal went to former French Under 25 rider and young professional Pauline Guillem aboard Loudzi Gold, a Hanoverian by Livaldon out of Sarafina (by Scolari). They were fifth in the preliminary round with 73,457% but then were right on Chauchard's heels in the final round with 77,336%. They finished second overall with 75,397%
Loudzi Gold is owned by the Rouen based real estate agents of Maison Cotard. Guillem made her international show debut on Loudzi Gold last July at the CDI Deauville and took her to Crozet three weeks later, where they were third twice. In 2020 they were third at the French Young Horse Championships, in 2021 they were ninth and in 2022 they were fourth.
Furst Rico Takes Bronze
And the French 7-YO Championships have a little bit more Belgian flair to them as the Belgian based Antoine Nowakowski picked up the bronze medal aboard the Hanoverian bred Furst Rico (by Furst Belissaro x Don Frederico).
The pair scored 73.988% in the preliminary round and 74.250% in the final round for an average of 74.119% which ranked them third overall. After a bronze medal at the 2023 Belgian Young Horse Championships, it was also bronze in France.
