The Americans continue to do what they can do best: buy ready made Grand Prix horses in Europe as team candidates for the Championship of the year. Probably one of the last sales before the FEI Ownership Deadline of 15 January 2024 for the Paris Olympics is the acquisition of Charlotte Dujardin's rising Grand Prix ride Hawtins San Floriana.
The U.S.A has now bought Bohemian, Fleau de Baian, Lars van de Hoenderheide, and Helix as Paris potentials. In 2021 Dutch team horse Haute Couture was bought and is a Paris team hopeful as well.
Hawtins San Floriana is a 12-year old British Hanoverian by San Amour of out Floriana (by Florestan x Weltmeyer). She is bred by Judith Davis.
Bryony Goodwin
Hawtins San Floriana is a true British product despite the German bloodlines. Bred, reared and first trained at Hawtins Stud in Gloucestershire, UK, San Floriana is out of elite mare Floriana, who herself represented Great Britain at the 2012 World Young Horse Championships in Verden. Under Bryony Goodwin, she competed nationally up to Intermediaire I level.
Goodwin also started daughter San Floriana and was very successful at young horse level with her. They made their show debut in April 2016 in Solihull and went on to win the 2016 British Young Horse Championships.
Charlotte Dujardin
In 2017 the mare was put in training with Charlotte Dujardin and their show premier was in July 2017. In August ownership was transferred to her and Carl Hester's name and the pair won the 2017 British Young Horse Championships, even though Davis was still credited as owner at that time.
A year later they recaptured the title in the 6-year old class at the 2018 British Young Horse Championships. They moved to Advanced Medium level in 2019, but a three year break from competition followed. They returned in July 2022 and in September the pair was fifth in the 2022 British Prix St Georges Championship.
Eight months later, in June 2023, they returned to the arena and made their Intermediaire II show debut at Hunters Equestrian. They won the 2023 British Intermediaire II Championship on a score of 77.88%.
Sold to the U.S.A.
San Floriana has now been sold to the U.S.A. to sponsor Diane Fellows for Canadian born American Ashley Holzer to ride. Dressprod first spotted the ownership change in the FEI database.
After an illustrious career riding for Canada at multiple Olympics, including winning team bronze in 1988, Holzer first represented the USA at the 2022 World Cup Finals with Diane Fellows' Havanna and at the 2022 World Championhips in Herning with her own Valentine. For the 2024 Olympic year, Holzer is also campaigning Diane Fellows' Bliss, P.J. Rizvi's Hansel and Francis. Last weekend she also competed her own, 8-year old Liberty L (by Toto Jr x Charmeur) at small tour level.
Hawtins San Floriana is yet to make her international show debut.
