The rising 5-year old Pina Colada, the coming 6-year old Secret Lover, and the soon to be 7-year old Everest became the winners of the 2025 KWPN Stallion Competition Finals.
After three qualifiers this winter in Kronenberg, Ermelo and Groniningn, the finals are traditionally held during the KWPN Stallion Licensing in 's Hertogenbosch. This year it was on 31 January 2025.
In Den Bosch a "day winner" is proclaimed but also the overall winner of the Finals
L-level: Pina Colada
The rising 5-year olds (born 2020) competed in the L-level finals. This year the finals did not include a fourth class to score overall points, but they were presented in pairs and commented on by Alex van Silfhout, making it an education masterclass.
The overall winner of the series was Bart Veeze aboard Pina Colada (by Governor x Dayano). He posted 85,6 in Kronenberg, 84,4 points in Ermelo, and 87,4 in Groningen for the overall victory. The tall bay gelding is bred by J. Mol.
“This is a horse with a lot of balance and scope,” explained Alex van Silfhout. “He always remains nicely uphill and stays very steady in the contact. His canter has a lot of jump, and we can already see him engaging his hind leg well in the downward transitions. This horse also has a very good walk with plenty of scope and body use.”
Under Zandra Birkeland, the rather nappy Pjethro (by Kjento x Desperado) secured the reserve title with 256.2 points. He is bred by A. Beerens. The third place also went to a stallion presented by Bart Veeze. Pride (by Secret x Apache, breeder Eef ten Bosch) scored 253.2 points
M-level: Secret Lover
In the M-level division for stallions born in 2019 only three competed for overall points and performed a test, while two further licensed stallions were presented under saddle. They were judged by Floor Dröge, Patrick van der Meer, and Maarten van der Heijden.
“This is a horse with a very beautiful silhouette and a lot of talent for collection," said judge Maarten van der Heijden. "He showed great willingness to work and executed smooth transitions. The canter stood out with its energy and activity while always remaining uphill. The walk had good rhythm and improved throughout the test. In the trot, we saw a lot of swing, rhythm, and shoulder freedom.”
With a minimal difference of 0.2 points, the reserve title went to Lara van Nek and her home bred Obsession Taonga. In third place was Ozzy TN (by Ibiza x For Romance, breeder C. Ortmann) ridden by Kim Alting.
Z-level: Everest
Three competed for the overall victory in the Z-level division for stallions born in 2018. Lottie Fry, who had a very busy day riding no less than 7 stallions in various classes that day, won the title with Everest (by Especial x Negro) . The pair had led in the qualifiers (82,4 - 82,2 - 88,6) and also topped the board in the final with 86,6 points, scoring 8.5 for walk, 9.2 for trot, 8.2 for canter, 8.6 for harmony and 8.8 for general impression. The grey stallion is bred and owned by Gert-Jan van Olst.
Adelinde Cornelissen rode New Dreams (by Jerveaux x Dream Boy) to a second place. Bred by Tim Coomans and owned by Daliquart BV, they scored a total of 84.80 points in Den Bosch with 8.3 for walk, 8.5 for trot, 8 for canter, 9 for harmony and 8.6 for general impression. The final competitor was Network (by Just Wimphof x Negro) under Femke de Laat. With a score of 82.82, Network’s total score of 324.6 earned him third place.
