
The 4-year old Remi Victorias Secret, the 5-year old Mayfield Vibrance, the 6-year old Exact, and the 7-year old Axel DC became the winners of the Australian Young Horse Championships, held annually during the PSI Dressage with the Stars competition at the CDI-W Werribee.
The Championships concluded on 22 March with naming the "Champion of Champions" and the 6-year old Exact got the title.
4-YO: Remi Victorias Secret
In the 4-year old division a field of 34 horses in the warm-up round was reduced to 10 for the Final round in which the winner was determined. Jane Ventura, Michael Osinski and Maria Schwennesen judged the division.
Daisy Fielding topped the board on the Hanoverian bred Remi Victorias Secret (by Remi Vigneron x Lauries As). Bred at Remi stud in Australia and owned by the rider, the chestnut mare scored a total of 80.60 points with an 8 for walk, 7.7 for trot, 8.5 for canter, 7.9 for submission and 8.2 for perspective. The pair was already second in the warm up round with 85.30 but rose to the top in the final for the title.
The silver medal went to Riley Alexander aboard Karma Wilson's Hanoverian gelding Glenhill Quatessence (by Quaterhit x Don Schufro). The pair moved from third place in the warm-up round to second in the final with 80.40 points. The chestnut gelding got 7.6 for walk, 7.7 for trot, 8.5 for canter, and 8.2 for submission and perspective.
The bronze was for Heather Currie aboard the Australian warmblood MW Boom (by Benicio x Sarkozy), bred by MacArthur Warmbloods and owned by the rider. The pair scored 80.20 points for third place. The horse got 8 for walk, 7.6 for trot, 8.3 for canter, 8 for submission and 8.2 for perspective.
5-YO: Mayfield Vibrance
Twenty-one horses competed in the 5-year old preliminary round and 10 moved to the final, which was judged by Jane Ventura, Patricia Wolters and Maria Schwennesen.
The runner-up was Deon Stokes aboard Leigh Richardson's MP Phoenix Rising, a For Romance x Furstenball bred at Mondomil Park. The pair posted 79.80 points for second place with 7.9 for walk, 7.8 for trot, 8 for canter, 8.2 for submission and 8 for perspective.
Robert Schmerglatt landed third pkace with Total Impact CBM, a Total Hope x Jive Magic offspring bred by Christine Crawford and owned by Megan McEachern. The duo got 8.5 for walk, 7.6 for trot, 7.8 for canter, 7.4 for submission and 7.7 for general impression.
6-YO: Exact
The 6-year old division attracted far less entries with just 7 combinations in the preliminary round which all moved forwards to the final round, judged by Patricia Wolters, Michael Osinski, and Susan Hoevenaars. The podium became an international affair with medal getters from three different countries.
New Zealand's John Thompson, who is based in Australia with his wife Kate Farrell, rode their KWPN stallion MI Toto (by Toto Jr x Apache) to second place with 81.60 points. This horse got 8 for walk and trot, 8.5 for canter, 8 for submission and 8.3 for perspective.
Australia's Mary Warren piloted her home bred Holsteiner gelding Mindarah Park Rupert (by Mindarah Park Ramadan x Promise R) to bronze with 80.20 points. The gelding got 8.3 for walk, 7.8 for trot, 8 for canter, 7.8 for submission and 8.2 for perspective.
7-YO: Axel DC
There were eleven pairs int he 7-year old preliminary round and 10 in the finals, judged by Susan Hoevenaars, Lee Howells, and Connie Murray.
Deon Stokes and Hannah Shippen's Hanoverian gelding Axel DC (by AC-DC x Florestano) topped the leaderboard with 78.215% after also winning the warm-up round with 73.411%. In the finals the pair earned 9 for walk, 8 for trot, 8.5 for canter, 8 for submission and 8.5 for perspective. The technical score was 72.429%. Last year the duo was the runner-up in the 6-year old final.
Harvey Besley and Nicole Magoffin's bay gelding Senzation (by Sezuan x Lauries Crusador xx) aced the preliminary round but settled for second place in the finals with 75.800%. The pair got 8 for walk, 8.5 for trot, 8.3 for canter, 7.7 for submission and 8.3 for perspective. Their technical score for the accurate execution of the test was 70%
Third place was for John Thompson on the imported Sicario (by Secret x Rousseau), bred by M. Hageman and owned by L & S Wells-Smith. They got 8 for walk, 7.5 for trot, 8 for canter, 7.5 for submission and 7.8 for perspective. With a 67.00% technical score they totalled 72.300%.
Champion of Champions: Exact
At the end of the Championship, the four division winners compete against each other for the title "Champion of Champions" and Exact was the winner.
German Olympian Heike Kemmer flew to Werribee alongside PSI/Hof Kasselmann's Insa Hansen, representing the long-time title sponsor of the event. Kemmer gave a clinic while Hansen represented the sponsor at the prize giving ceremony.
