The German Sport Horse (DSP) breeding society has proclaimed the Oldenburg bred Floricello elite stallion. The liver chestnut was honoured with the title at the 2026 DSP Licensing Gala on 24 January 2026.

Floricello is an 18-year old Oldenburg stallion by Florencio out of Starlett (by Dormello x Feingau x Inschallah AA) and bred by Georg Sieverding.

Andreas Helgstrand

Floricello was the reserve champion of the 2010 Oldenburg Stallion Licensing in Vechta and sold to Inger Marie Hemmingsen in Sweden.

Under Jennie Hemmingsen the liver chestnut scored silver at the 2011 Swedish Young Horse Championships.

In May 2012 a 50% ownership share in Floricello sold to Danish Andreas Helgstrand and the horse moved to Denmark. The new pair won silver in the 5-year old division at 2013 World Young Horse Championships in Verden, Germany, and bronze at the 2013 Danish Young Horse Championships.

Sara Marburg

In the spring of 2014 Munich based entrepreneur Sara Marburg acquired Floricello as part of a mass horse shopping deal, which also included the Grand Prix horse Polka Hit Nexen, and younger stars Stevie Wonder, Zadetto and Didando.

Marburg's assistant trainer Andrea Vodermair competed Floricello once in May 2014 at a local show in Kreuth, Germany. Marburg was unable to enjoy much sportive success with Floricello who soon sustained an injury that turned the horse took three years to recover from.

Wadenspanner

Floricello rehabilitated initially at Vodermair's Max Hof near Munich, but as he recovered was moved to Walter Wadenspanner's stallion station and dressage yard in 2017, where he reached fitness again.

Walter Wadenspanner and Floricello returned to the show ring at a local event in Dirnau-Burglengenfeld in July 2017, competing at M-level. The pair competed regularly through the summer and moved to small tour level by the end of 2017.

In 2018 the duo continued to show at small tour level, but only at low key regional shows until January 2019.

Floricello then had an almost one year break from competition, to make one more come back in February 2020 at S-level under Ferdinand Csaki.

Retired from Sport

In 2020 Marburg has decided to retire the 12-year old Floricello entirely from sport this year and sold him as a breeding stallion to Wadenspanner.

With Wadenspanner in 2018
Floricello has sired ten licensed sons as well as notable offspring, at this point the largest group during his time in Sweden. They include licensed stallions Formalin (by Floricello x D-Day), Oban VH (by Floricello x De Niro), Klifton (by Floricello x Briar), and Fairway (by Floricello x Sandro Hit), as well as 2016 Swedish young horse champion Florence VH (by Floricello x Rohdiamant), World Championship participant Fumiere (Anna Zibrandtsen) and 2019 Swedish Breeders Trophy winner Notting Hill TH (Marina Mattsson). Floricello's most popular German bred licensed son is Feliciano.

Elite Sire

The title of "Elite stallion" goes by certain requirements: a high breeding value index with the German FN and a minimum number of licensed sons and successful offspring at S-level.

Floricello succeeds dressage sires QuaterbackDon Diamond, Rivero II, Millennium and Decurio as DSP elite dressage sire.
