Kathrin Glock, who is notoriously close-lipped about her horses, stated in an article in Vanity Fair that all Glock owned horses have been retired from competition sport.

The American lifestyle magazine Vanity Fair published an article about the late Gaston Glock and his wife Kathrin (née Tschikof) titled "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" written by published author Simon Akam. The leadline to the story said, "when Gaston Glock died in 2023, he left behind an empire built on a killing machine—wealth that put his new wife, an animal rights activist and enthusiastic arms executive, at odds with his kids and first wife."

The article reveals and confirms that Glock announced their closing of all horse operations in November 2024, following a decision taken in 2022 when Gaston was still alive.

Gaston Glock signed a 10-year old sponsorship with Gal, Minderhoud and Werner in February 2012. According to Kathrin, the Dutch sponsored trio was well aware of the phased ending of the collaboration and money spending.

In reply to Vanity Fair Kathrin issues the following statement:  "its implementation was carried out gradually and consistently under my leadership in the following years. All Glock horses were retired from competition and are now enjoying their retirement in a true equestrian paradise—GHPC Austria."

Austrian newspaper Der Standard investigated that in the period of 2014 - 2019 no less than 380 million euro went from Glock's private foundations to the Glock Horse Performance Center for purchases, costs, as well as running the horse show in Villach-Treffen from 2012 through 2015 (one such show cost 30 million euro to host), etc. Celebrities such as Robbie Williams were hired to maje an appearance there. Photographers had to sign a confidentiality/supervision contract if they wished to photograph at these CDI's, the reason why Eurodressage never attended.

"These world-renowned tournaments were also part of Glock’s marketing and communication strategy," Kathrin Glock stated.

The Glock Trio

The Glock sponsored trio Edward Gal, Hans Peter Minderhoud and Nicole Werner all have moved.

Edward Gal was the most successful rider for Glock and competed at the 2016 and 2021 Olympics. In 2022 he took a sabbatical from sport which lasted two years in the midst of a controversial climate on social media about animal welfare rights. He attempted to return on the Dutch Olympic team for the 2024 Games but did not achieve a spot. His last CDI was Rotterdam in 2024. Since then Edward has focused on a new sportswear fashion line, as well as a sponsorship with Stefano Ricci.

Hans Peter Minderhoud is renting boxes in a barn in Voorthuizen and continues his career as a competition rider. He still feels the fire burning to show and strive for a Dutch team spot. He is making his come back to the international Grand Prix ring this weekend at the CDI Exloo with Joop van Uytert's Mister US (by Grey Flanell). Minderhoud last rode at CDI big tour level in June 2025 on Taminiau.

Nicole Werner continues working with a string of Dutch students as a travelling coach.
