2026 Swedish Dressage Championships

Children rider Viggo Bornhager, pony rider Ella Jerlin, junior rider Ebba Wallin Ivarsson, young rider Ellen Stymne, Under 25 rider Siri Ehrnroth, and senior Grand Prix rider Patrik Kittel became the winners of the 2026 Swedish Dressage Championships held in Skovde on 15 - 17 May 2026.

Youth: Bornhager, Wallin Ivarsson, Stymne

The Swedish nationals included five different categories for pony riders but the one covering FEI pony level for kids up to the age of 16 was the D-pony group 1 division which was won by Ella Jerlin aboard the 14-year old ASRP gelding Piri Piri (by Charivari x Lordanos). She won the gold medal with scores of 69.238% in the team test, 72.072% in the individual test and 74.335% in the Kur. The silver was for Malva Modigh and bronze for Engla Svard.

The gold medal in the children division for 12 to 14 year old riders went to the 14-year old Viggo Bornhager (pictured) on the evergreen, 20-year old Hanoverian gelding Rosenstolz (by Rotspon x De Niro). The pair won both rounds with 76.225% and 71.556%. Bornhager is the younger brother to Swedish youth team rider Wilma Bornhager. Signe Liew got silver and Samantha Arnbäck got bronze. Eight pairs competed in the division.

In the junior division, 30 combinations competed in the first two rounds and fifteen moved forwards to round three, the freestyle. Ebba Wallin Ivarsson and the 8-year old Swedish geling Fascinate KR (by For Emotion x Don Schufro) wielded the axe of power and was the only pair to score three times over seventy. They won the gold with 71.364% in the team test, 71.275% in the individual test and 72.87% in the kur. Silver was for Tilda Andre Hokfelt and bronze for Agnes Christensen.

Twenty-six pairs competed in the Young Riders division and 15 moved to the freestyle final. Ellen Stymne and the 11-year old KWPn bred Kinetic S (by Negro x Krack C) were a league of their own, winning all three rounds for the gold. They scored 72.745% in the team test, 72.01% in the individual test, and 77.74% in the Kur. The silver went to Ebba Lindholm and the bronze was for Juni Skobe Rosen.

U25 Grand Prix: Cecilia Bergakra

In the Under 25 Grand Prix division 11 pairs competed but only 6 rode both rounds.

Siri Ehrnrooth and her 16-year old Danish bred gelding Mogelbjergs Romeo (by Rush Hour x Don Romantic) topped the board with two twinning scores: 69.231% in the first round and 73.17% in the last round. She welcomed Hedda Thunberg and Linnea Holmgren with her on the podium for the medals.

Senior Grand Prix: 13th Record Title for Patrik Kittel

Over the years Patrik Kittel has made it no secret that his goal of riding at the Swedish Championships was to steal the record from Ulla Hakanson and this year he did it. With his 13th overall victory he is now the Swedish riders with the most Grand Prix champion titles behind his name. Hakanson held 12.

"I'm proud that we didn't give up and that we invested so long-term in 13 gold medals," said Kittel proud of himself. "That's a long time and we gave everything with so much energy and soul." The horses that helped him to this record were Toy Story, Scandic, Delaunay, Deja, Fuhur, Forever Young HRH and Touchdown.

Kittel won his first title in 2013 and 13 years later he got his 13th title; this time aboard the 14-year old Swedish warmblood Touchdown (by Quaterback x Sack). He scored 73.891% in the Grand Prix and 82.225% in the Kur.

"Actually, I can ride a Grand Prix at a local competition or at a Swedish Championship just as easily as in Aachen or another big arena, it's the same track and the same program," Kittel explained. "The important thing is that you keep your routines and keep the horses going with good intervals at the competitions. And the event in Skövde was very well planned (on the calendar)."

At Grand Prix level only two rounds were ridden. Nineteen riders did the Grand Prix, 14 moved forward to the freestyle. The silver medal went to Swedish team rider Maria von Essen on the 14-year old KWPN gelding Invoice (by Jazz x Ferro) who was a clear second with 73.236% and 77.955%. The bronze went to Cecilia Bergakra on the 15-year old Swedish mare My Friend (by Friendship x Troll). Bergakra made the successful transition from Under 25 level to the senior division this year and rode herself straight onto the podium. She was third with 70.413% and 73.910%.
