The combinations for the 2023 Piaff Forderpreis show circuit are known following the annual training and selection trial in Warendorf, which took place on 29 - 30 March 2023.
From 40 to 13
No less than 40 combinations competed in the 2023 Piaff Forderpreis selection trial held at the DOKR headquarters in Warendorf, the same amount as in 2022, while there were 33 riders in 2021. Biggest absentee was Luca Collin, who was expected to premier one of her Grand Prix horses, either Fuhur or Bonamour.
German Under 25 squad listed riders receive dispensation from competing in the selection trial. Currently in the "Perspective/U25" squad are Helen Erbe, Paulina Holzknecht, Joana Peterka, Alina Sxhrader, Selina Söder and Alexa Westendarp.
A Good Mix
Team trainers Monica Theodorescu (senior) and Sebastian Heinze (U25) selected a group of 13 riders eligible to compete on the circuit this year, based on the riders' performance in the training session as well as their score in the ridden test. This year the ridden test was held like a "competition test" in competition clothes, with an official ranking, and prize money to be won so that a "show atmosphere" was mimicked.
“We have an incredibly large squad and many great combinations. I find it very exciting how many riders in this age group have taken up Grand Prix," Heinze commented. "We have a good mix for this season. There are a few pairs who have worked their way up from the U21 level, there are new faces with promising horses and good young professional riders.”
