The black Dark Dynamic has been named champion of the 2023 Westfalian Stallion Licensing in Munster-Handorf on 4 December 2023.

A collection of 58 colts was in the running for a breeding pass, in the end 56 completed the licensing days and as per usual the Westfalian licensing committee generously accepted stallions. No less than 34 were accepted and 12 were named premium. Four of those premium stallions were Hanoverian registered.

Horses.nl called this year's crop "mediocre" but when it comes to auctioning their horses, the Westfalian breeding society made stallion shoppers open their wallets wide. Whether prices are real or fake (horse pre-bought before the auction and the price upped at auction for publicity), the general public will never know... The premium colts sold for stellar prices, which will make the other studbooks envious, but licensed colts sold for prices significantly lower.

Deichgraf, ala Dark Dynamic, Champion

Deichgraf (by Dream Boy out of Dance on Points (by De Niro x Sir Donnerhall x Furst Heinrich) became the champion. Bred by Ludger Wigger-Pieper in Telgte he "impressed with his modern silhouette and masculine self carriage."

His owners are Ursula and Joachim Rosendahl, who discovered and bought Himin the May 2021 Westfalian Online Foal auction as the price highlight for 60,000 euro. He was named Deichgraf at the auction. He was not offered for sale in the auction following the licensing and will stand at Holkenbrink stallion station. They renamed him Dark Dynamic.

Two Reserves, Again

Trocadéro (by Total McLaren x Florenciano)

Unable to make choices, the licensing committee again picked two reserve champions which the general public sees more as a publicity and marketing stunt than a proper sorting by quality.

The first reserve champion was a colt by Secret x Christ, bred by Dirk Hoffmann. The chestnut is owned by Rudolf Kühlmann. Paul Schockemöhle and his new wingman, Lukas Fischer, had the highest bid on this colt: 300,000 euro. It was rumoured that Andreas Helgstrand is a co-buyer in this horse, but the team of Schockemöhle says no.

The second reserve champion was Trocadéro, a Total Mc Laren x Florenciano colt, bred by Heinz and Elisabeth Schulte and owned by his handler, Stefan Holtwiesche. He became the price highlight of the auction, selling for 700,000 euro to Adrian Gasser's Gut Schönweide. The stallion is a carrier of WFFS.

Two Third Places

Following the strand of being unable to rank stallions, there were two third placed colts. One is by Bonds x Fürst Romancier, bred by Dirk Lohmann and owned by Mathieu Beckmann. He sold at auction for 281,000 euro to Team Nijhof in The Netherlands.

The other was Cirion (by Confess Color x Sir Donnerhall I), bred by Dr. Norhausen and Rayber and owned by Blue Moon Sporthorses. He sold for 310,000 euro to the state studs Warendorf and Moritzburg.

Taurus

The stallion that stood out the most with his offspring at this licensing was Taurus. The Dutch warmblood bred Toto Jr x Apache x Jetset D offspring, owned by Reesink Horses and standing in Germany with Mathieu Beckmann, had four colts in the licensing from his first crop of foals and all four of them were licensed, though non were named premium. At auction, the Taurus offspring did not fetch high prices though.

Foundation stallion Vitalis had three out of four colts accepted. The popular breeding stallion Dynamic Dream (by Dream Boy x Sir Donnerhall) has only one out of five sons accepted.

The most expensive, non licensed stallion was the For Romance x Scolari, which sold to Ewelina Kwietowicz from Poland for 60,500 euro. Polish Grand Prix rider Beata Stremler will train the stallion.

A non-licensed Dynamic Dream x Belissimo M moves to Belgium for 28,500 euro. The average price for a licensed stallion was 142,647 euro. Of the non-licensed stallions offered for sale, 83% of them sold to new owners. They sold at an average price of 25,200 euro.
