The KWPN licensed stallion Dark Rousseau has been sold to the United States. He has joined Iron Spring Farm.

Dark Rousseau is a 6-year old Dutch warmblood by Dettori out of Westwide (by Rousseau x Flemmingh). He is bred by H. Verdellen and his original name is Noble Savage.

Double Licensing

Dutch horse dealer Eugene Reesink discovered and bought him as a youngster.

As Dark Rousseau was first licensed with the Mecklenburg breed society in 2020, his name changed to Dark Rousseau to fit the German naming system (first letter of the sire repeated in the name of the horse). He was accepted at a home approval held at Stefan Holtwiesche's yard in Gescher, Germany as the main Mecklenburg licensing was cancelled due to corona that year.

Two weeks later, he got picked at the pre-selection for the 2021 KWPN Stallion Licensing and was licensed in Den Bosch in February 2021.  He became the first licensed son of Dettori.

He scored the fourth best result (83.5 points) in the 2021-2022 KWPN Winter Stallion performance testing. He was then listed as owned by Reesink and G. Jansema.

Sport Career

Dark Rousseau has only competed in The Netherlands so far.

Under Kim Alting he won two legs of the 2022-2023 KWPN Stallion Competition in Kronenberg and Ermelo and went on to win the Finals in Den Bosch in February 2023.

Alting moved from riding at Reesink's barn in Eibergen to Dinja van Liere's stable in Uden and was allowed to bring Dark Rousseau along. She tried to qualify him for the Dutch team for the 2023 World Young Horse Championships but he was not selected. At the 2023 Pavo Cup Finals he finished 10th

The pair competed on the 2023-2024 KWPN Stallion Competition circuit. They were rung out for being unlevel in Kronenberg, but at the second leg in Ermelo they were second.  In the spring of 2024 Alting again tried for Dutch WCYH team selection. They were named second reserve. They finished fourth in the 2024 Pavo Cup Finals.

Sold to the U.S.A.

In the late summer the stallion sold to Iron Spring Farm in the U.S.A.

Dark Rousseau just got released from CEM quarantine. "We are going to let him settle in and see where he best it’s in our program," Iron Spring Farm told Eurodressage.
