Westfalian

A Vitalis x Furst Jazz colt was named champion of the 2024 Westfalian Stallion Licensing in Munster-Handorf on 3 December 2024.

Fifty-five stallions that were pre-selected for the licensing arrived in Munster-Handorf on Sunday 1 November for the 3-day licensing process. As usual the Westfalian licensing committee generously accepted the stallions with no less than 43 (!!!) licensed. Thirteen of those were named premium stallion.

Vitalis x Furst Jazz

The champion was the liver chestnut Vitalis x Furst Jazz x Stedinger, bred by ZG Harms and owned by BG Franz-Georg Ottmann and Thomas Berger. The stallion was prepared for the licensing by Johannes Westendarp and he became the favourite of the committee and crowd.

At the auction following the licensing he became the price highlight, selling for 850,000 euro to horse dealer Eugene Reesink in The Netherlands. After the sale of Grand Prix horse Vita di Lusso and breeding stallion Vaderland, amongst other top horses, Reesink had some money to spend and re-invested in this Vitalis x Furst Jazz. Interesting fact, Reesink presented sire Vitalis in Westfalen at the 2009 licensing, where he was named reserve champion back in the day.

Total Gut

Even though a big group of stallions was named premium to boost the interest with buyers at the auction (and fill the coffers of the studbook and owners), the licensing committee did have the sense again this year to name one stallion reserve instead of a whole string.

The reserve stallion was Total Gut (by Toto Gold x Floriscount x Santino); bred by Ruth Volkwein and owned by Yara Reichert. He was bought by Reichert as a foal for 15,000 euro at the 2022 Westfalian July Foal Auction and was not for sale.

Zanetti

The third ranked stallion in the premium ring was the Zanetti x Escolar x Newcastle colt, bred by Markus Schulze-Finkenbrink and owned by Mathieu Beckmann. He sold at auction for 520,000 euro to Mantovani Horses in Portugal.

Zanetti (by Zoom) presented his first crop this year and had two sons selected for the licensing: one was third ranked, the other named premium. This Zanetti x De Niro sold for 220,000 euro.

"Endring"

Two colts tied in fourth but it was just labelled as that they made the "end ring".

The best seller of those two was MSJ Soulmate (by St. Schufro x Sir Donnerhall x For Compliment), bred and owned by Emma Blundell at Mount St. John. He sold for 505,000 euro to a German buyer.

The other was a Zuperman x Royal Classic x De Niro, bred by Dr. Stefan Tietje and owned by the breeder in partnership with XT-Pferde. He sold for 380,000 euro to the syndicate between Klosterhof Medingen and French investors Annabel Moreau/Claudia Chauchard.

Licensed

The most expensive non-premium licensed stallion was the Debutant PS x Feinrich, which sold for 225,000 euro.

The So Perfect x Dimaggio fetched 175,000 euro, the chestnut Zoom x Franziskus moves to The Netherlands for 92,000 euro, and the Damaschino x Dimaggio found a new owner for 88,000 euro.

The Vaderland x Floriscount sold for 78,000 euro, while a Total Diamond x For Dance had a hammer price of 68,000 euro. The bay Von und Zu x Danone went for 55,000 euro.

The most expensive non-licensed stallion was the Sir Heinrich x Rocky Lee who will stay in Germany for 55,000 euro.
