Jane Weatherwax Retires as FEI 4* Judge

American Jane Weatherwax has retired as a FEI 4* dressage judge. This was announced at 2025 Dressage at Devon last week. 

Weatherwax will continue judging at national level as a U.S. and Canadian S-judge. 

Trainer

Jane spent her childhood in Europe, the daughter of a career naval officer, where she got her initial training in dressage. Based in in Petaluma, California, she has been an active trainer and instructor for over 45 years. 

In 1995 she competed the bay American bred Manhattan at small tour level. The last horse she showed extensively was KWPN bred Jalisco (by Telstar out of She's So Nice). Her final trip down the centerline was in April 2002 at the Del Mar National show, competing Jalisco at small tour level.

Since then Weatherwax has been focused on coaching and is a regular clinician across the U.S.A.

Judging

She became a 4* (Level 3) FEI dressage judge in 2003 and has been an FEI young horse judge since 2014.

In the past two decades her judging has mainly been focused on CDI's in North America: Ocala, Tryon, Wellington, Thermal, Flintridge, Temecula, Rancho Murieta, Del Mar, Katy, San Juan Capistrano, Sherwood, Ottawa, Langley, Guadalajara, Saugerties, Thousand Oaks, Parker, Mexico City, Devon, and Blainville.

Her more high‑profile judging assignments include the 2007 Pan American Games in Brazil, the 2007 North American Junior and Young Riders Championships, the 2012 U.S. Olympic team selection trials, the 2022 European Young Riders Championships, where she fell ill and had to be replaced for the second round, and the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games.

Weatherwax judged her last CDI at Dressage at Devon, where her retirement from international judging was announced. She was also part of the Living Legends of Devon celebration.
